The underlying reason for the difference in belief systems between big government Liberals, and small government Conservatives is primarily a matter of how one perceives what is best for society as a whole. There clearly is not one giant underlying objective truth where one side is right and the other side is wrong. It is basically a difference in perspective. Almost everything in politics is gray area, and there exists very little black and white.

There are highly intelligent subsets of people on both sides of the divide, just as there are complete idiots on both sides. If one honestly believes one side is rooted in objective truth, and the other in objective untruths, that person is clearly not in the highly intelligent subset of their own divide.

 

Besides the fact that I find Evangelicals creepy, this is exactly why I so detest Republicans, their estrangement from reality. Are ya all still pretending that Trump has not been colluding with Russians and Ukrainians to help his reelection. Two of his Ukrainian operatives were arrested for funneling Russian money into Trump's campaign.

I agree. Usually our form of government will assure that neither of the radical fringes of either one of these philosophys ever get total control of the government. Ideally a mix of ideas between intelligent people will be enacted through compromise and keep things running smoothly.

 

I use to think that there were honest and intelligent people on both sides. But not anymore.

A good example is the violence in Portland. The Patriot Boys, every one of them a felon, kept coming to town with the intent of causing trouble.

In a typical encounter there would be about 20-30 members of Patriot Prayer, using amplification, would yell insults at liberals, women, Portland, and on and on, and then proceed to vandalise the city.

The second and following times, around three thousand counter protestors showed up and shouted them down. Out of frustration, Patriot Prayer then, spraying bear spray at the counter protestors, attacked. But there were anti fascists waiting for them causing them to run for the protection of the police. The Patriot Prayer kept coming back, causing trouble, picking fights, vandalising. They even went into a restaurant/bar and began knocking over tables and breaking glasses and stuff. In the end, their leader and several of their members have been arrested and charged with felonies. In addition, they are facing lawsuits in the million dollar range. All of which has taken the wind out of their sails.

Yet all across conservative land, conservative were pretending that it was just violent lefists attacking innocent conservatives.

Since I live in Portland and have seen these encounters first hand, it is quite obvious that in conservative land, things are not honest.

If you voted for Trump you have no ground to stand on, none, when it comes to calling out what you perceive as dishonesty and unethical behavior in others. Not even an inch.

I mean, you do know who you voted for, right? Of course you did. You don't live in a hole in the ground, you're on the internet, on this forum. You knew who he was, who he has always been.

You chose to vote for him anyway. Why is that okay for you to knowingly vote for and support corrupt liars, but not others?

 

I just watched it. This is another good example. The conservative conspiracy theories have become so ingrained into conservative thought. Of course it comes from your .media and politicians who are peddling these conspiracy theories. So much so that conservatives don't even blink.
