The withdrawal from Syria was a smart move. Smart like the USSR supporting N. Korea and when the U.N. forces got to the Chinese border, evacuated leaving China to absorb the fight. Now, Trump brings in Russia and "we" let them absorb the fight as they support the Assad government. Seems to me the best result we could hope for. Moi Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic, regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us. Trump got tough with trade abuses Obama & Bush Jr. ignored!
WTF We just ceded to Turkey. Make America. Back-Stabbing Wussies. Oh, America by the way, it was a quid pro quo. Bye. Bye. Trump administration.
We made Russia step up. https://www.yahoo.com/news/putin-syria-gambit-delivers-again-065556110.html Less than a week after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ordered the intervention, Russia underlined its dominance in the region by warning of the limits of its patience with the operation. Now Russia gets to support Assad while fighting ISIS and dealing with regional powers Turkey, and Iran. Seems like a win to Moi.
We could have lost in 1960 when the intelligence community knew it was unwinnable yet continued a deception on the President. At least NIXON entered his presidency knowing it was unwinnable. Unless you are willing to nuke Vietnam, "lost" was the only realistic conclusion. All that blood, bone, lives for a deception by the intelligence community on JFK, LBJ, probably Eisenhower too. Good flick, documentary "A President Betrayed"
Interesting thought. I don’t think Russia was made to step up. Russia slithered in when there was an opportunity. Trump is a blunderer. His master strokes are unnerving.
Russia slithered in there when Assad asked them to, so they could fight the terrorists who were destroying his country. After all we weren't doing the job. From what I recall we were dropping bombs on the sand dunes - rather than on the tankers carrying ISIS's stolen oil to Turkey in exchange for arms. Fight and strife is my name and chaos is my game. I gear them all to kill and maim and give them cause to do the same to us. EVENTUALLY! - Jeannette
There are over 200 sovereign countries in the world. So when two countries half way around the world start killing each other and no countries step in to broker a peace why is the U.S. to blame?
@Sallyally Russia is going to defend Assad. Given! There is Turkey and Iran to consider as major players for influence and home grown sorts of Jihadist. Trump did a smart move letting Russia fill the vacuum created by getting out. How is this NOT true? Moi No
Do you really think that he had planned it this way? That he would have to backtrack and write that dumb letter to Erdogan? And that the ISIS prisoners would escape , and the world seeing that Trumps word as an ally was not to be relied upon?
They will trust us because we are getting our act together, and no longer meddling in things that don't concern us. We win trust with this move.
