What difference does the choice of weapon make? I think you're arguing against ARs because you were commanded to be against ARs.
And that's why the gangs in Detroit, Chicago, ST Louis, Baltimore and New Orleans use them. If you want to reduce gun violence that start with the criminals and not law abiding citizens. Taking away my gun will not prevent a murder in any of the cities I mentioned above.
No but we can reduce the numbers of firearms in households as they are many many times more likely to be turn against family members including children by other family members then against some intruder. Women are far more at risk of being murder by their partners then some stranger that break into their homes.
We own them because our founders knew human history all too well. They were giving us basic insurance against people who would take away rights even if you listed them in the constitution . They didnt want us defenseless from a govt the left might impose upon us. Or the right. They knew that such a right would allow crazy or evil people kill innocents . But the option of leaving us defenseless from tyranny was not acceptable . Yes my analogy was ridiculous but no more than what the untrustworthy left would do if given the chance. Banning guns , taking away a right is also ridiculous because you cannot get rid of the nuts nor the evil. And laws will not keep guns from anyone who is set on getting one.

Does it make a difference if 443 people are killed with blunt objects, one at a time, or less than 297 are killed with an AR-15? Yes it does. 146 people. Why people focus on a weapon used in the least amount of murders is crazy. Just because it looks bad. By the way, "other guns" killed 167 people last year. I'm guessing an "other gun" would be a black powder or something since it's not a handgun, shotgun, rifle, or handgun. Why not focus on banning those? This woman probably had a much better aim with an AR (probably had a red dot) than she would have had with a handgun or shotgun.
Ar-15s are so uncommon in public shootings. Scary looking assault weapons are hardly ever used in shootings.
Chicago likes to post numbers saying the guns come from Indiana and even if they do and Indiana banned all guns then they would come from another state until all states banned guns and then they would come from other countries and to those that want to say that wouldnt happen. What wall would stop them? And look how well the war on drugs has gone.

The number of American men, women, & children murdered while driving to a wedding in Mexico yesterday = 9.
The number of people murdered last night arguing about who was in line first to buy a Popeyes chicken sammich = 1
The AR15 is the best home defense firearm ever made. Plenty of capacity and less penetration through walls.
Ok, but that's a bit over the top of my point. I was wondering if the story was about a woman protecting herself and her kids or if it was about owning an assault rifle. My 9mm could have done the same thing. The story comes across as more of a response to talk of banning assault weapons than of a mom protecting her family.
It's their household and nobody else's; they decide. Just like risky AIDS sex; it's their body; they decide.
