Dunno (I am Australian) but everyone running for office shows their tax returns as a gesture of their honesty and sense of responsibility to their nation. Nothing, really.
We knew going in that Trump wasn't honest.. we voted foe him anyway because Obama and Clinton were that bad.. Also everyone in DC is just as dishonest.. I think Trump's attitude about it was a breath of different air, not fresh air just different.
I accept that. But "bad" has many meanings. I feel Trump didn't "win"the election, Clinton lost the election. Trump violates so many principles it's not funny - he's the playboy with call girls; the patriot who dodged the draft; the honest broker who refuses to testify; the Christian who doesn't go to church; the businessman who was bankrupt three times etc.. Obama and Bill Clinton might be "bad" but that's more on a policy level. For trump it's both policy level and personal level.
The only major policy decision i have strong disagreements with Trump on. Was the decision to abandon the Kurds
Taken from US Code 26. Internal Revenue Code 6103 regarding the confidentiality of tax returns. (3) Other committees Pursuant to an action by, and upon written request by the chairman of, a committee of the Senate or the House of Representatives (other than a committee specified in paragraph (1)) specially authorized to inspect any return or return information by a resolution of the Senate or the House of Representatives or, in the case of a joint committee (other than the joint committee specified in paragraph (1)) by concurrent resolution, the Secretary shall furnish such committee, or a duly authorized and designated subcommittee thereof, sitting in closed executive session, with any return or return information which such resolution authorizes the committee or subcommittee to inspect. Any resolution described in this paragraph shall specify the purpose for which the return or return information is to be furnished and that such information cannot reasonably be obtained from any other source. https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/6103 I wonder what reason they will give, and is the written request a document that can be obtained by a freedom of information act request?
He's obstructing Congress across-the-board. The solution is obvious--impeach, then remove him from office. The Presidency is too powerful and too important for Congress and the country to rely on court orders as a means to check the Executive.
Congress is too important and powerful to let it run amok trying to get rid of a president because they are butt hurt over Clinton's humiliating defeat
Any such crimes against the person of the Presidency should be with held from prosecution until after the term(s) of that person being President. Stop Weakening The Office of the President to the World! Why Not Bust Trump For Tax Crimes In 2024? Oh, that's not as "politically advantageous". <sigh>
How many ways will you try to have it? You want Trump to defy Congress and force Congress to take him to court. Trump can be impeached. You don't like that.
Trump can be impeached yes congress has the authority to do that. His tax returns are not part of impeachment. And yes Trump has the right to use the legal system to fight his impeachment and to avoid having to turn over his tax returns. Congress having the right to impeach does not make him congress's bitch.
If it's a custom it sort of becomes a mark of decency and respect. But if, like in my country Australia, it's not done then there's no offense in divulging your financials.
They might be, but more importantly they're part of Congressional oversight of the IRS and the impact of the tax system. No one I know said Trump can't access the legal system.
i am sorry congress does not have the authority to badger the president for the entire length of his presidency. if this Ukraine thing goes nowhere then the house of reps needs to suck it up and wait for the election. they aren't providing over site AT ALL they are playing partisan politics. ok lets play this out. Say trump is guilty he full on bribed Ukraine to destroy Biden.. what are the consequences for America? absolutely nothing!!!!
Congress has oversight authority not harassment authority.. Trump has done nothing impeachable with regards to Ukraine If Trump is guilty of everything the democrats allege what is the Impact on America? nothing at all. he farted in a no farting zone.. that's about how serious this is
Congress hasn't overstepped. I disagree. He should be impeached and removed for obstructing the Mueller probe, too. Hard on Trump? No. I think Slick Willie should have been removed. He's corrupt and should go.
