At what demonstrations did he show up? Where did he risk his life?

And there is another thing, German - american relations are at absolute rock bottom. I dont think that now would be right time to build a statue like that, when majority of Germans sees USA as bigger threat than Russia, North Korea and Iran

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...-see-us-german-ties-as-negative-idUSKCN1PX1C7

Nicht gut: Nearly 85 percent of Germans see U.S-German ties as negative

Nearly 85 percent of Germans have a negative or very negative view of U.S.-German relations, and most want to put more distance between the traditionally close transaltantic allies, a new poll showed on Friday.

Just over 40 percent of those polled view China as a better partner for Germany than the United States, the survey of around 5,000 people, conducted by Atlantik-Bruecke and the Civey institute in poll in November and December, showed.

A total of 57.6 percent of those polled want to see more distance between Berlin and Washington, and 42.3 percent consider China a better partner.

Only 1.9 percent worried about Russia, and 2.2 percent who feared the growing influence of China.

Looks to me like it is Germans and their Government who are anti America as opposed to America being Anti German. Sad to see that Germany is in a decline. Never mind, we have a wonderful Statue of the leader of the Free world in the 1980s who worked so hard to free East Germany as well as other communist dominated countries. So it seems ungrateful to read what you keep telling us.

Why are we in a decline? Its Trump who nonstop insults our nation. And how is it decline when we analyse an alliance and see at what position it is?

Being occupied by Americans was not a very popular thing in Germany. Konrad Adenauer promoted the U.S. to his people.
I really do not think you understand the situation in Germany. WW I sucked the country dry and left the German population destitute thanks to the terms laid out by the victors of that war. Hiter told the victors to stick their terms up their asses and he built up Germany once again. But he went too far and WW II was the consequence. So again Germany was defeated in war and it was back to square one for Germany. So I don't know what you think is so insightful when you say, "After WW2 far more was done for Germany rebuilding it that Germany ever had the power at the time or ability to flex its muscles in the international community." Duh! Ya' think?
You still don't get it. Konrad Adenauer was the force making Germany accept the American occupation. If you think that was a small thing then you don't understand very much at all.

Who's "the leader of the free world"? I can think of several European nations. The U.S. is most definitely NOT "the leader of the free world" nor is it "the leader of Democracy". In fact, the U.S. is the biggest danger to world peace of any other country in the world today.

I do not agree. Why didn't you name the actual leader per your own claim?

Economically yes, militarilly, no by a long shot.
And at least, Polands F16 and Mig-29 are able to take off and fight which is way better than your airforce that can't even take off.

There is no leader of the free world. Kohl was chancellor in Germany, Reagan president in USA, Thatcher in UK ect.

Be nice. I remember the Poles had the courage to stand up to the Soviets and its puppet regime in their country nine years before East Berliners did.

To be honest, I don't understand the fuss people on both sides are making over this. Reagan already has a plaque dedicated to him and his speech near the Brandenburg Gate and so what if we dedicate a statue to him at our embassy in Berlin?

All I'm doing is explaining to you why Reagan deserves a statue in Berlin - I'm not saying Germany has to build one. There's no shame in remembering your friends, Sobo. That's why we dedicated a statue to Friedrich von Steuben at Valley Forge. He was a friend to our people just as Presidents Kennedy and Reagan were friends to your people.

Incidentally, there's a section of the Berlin Wall located behind the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California where Reagan and his wife are buried:

Germany is in decline since it is being petty. Didn't it cost Merkel a lot of support?

Well i think Reagan is a victim of Trump regarding that. Before Trump such a statue would not have caused any fuss, but now relations are that bad, that it is like that

They actually mattered little, good show but not much more.
Gorbi had pulled the plug on the East German dictator. The East European countries had opened their borders and did not stop East Germans.
Without the support of the Soviets, the East German government was helpless, the country bankrupt, it imploded.

Every visitor to the USA given time, should visit the Reagan Presidential library and museum. It has been my privilege to go there two times.

Yes, the Damage was done to East Germany prior to the citizens tearing down the wall. Strange how a German that played no role in any of this sees history vs how it was when the wall was torn down. Back then Germans were very appreciative of Ronald Reagan.
