There's stupid and then there's Hong Kong rioter stupid. These rioters have just given China the justification to take off the kid gloves.
My girlfriend currently works in Hong Kong, and as a Filipina living there it is very frightening. However, she and I agree Hong Kong needs more independence from mainland China; how exactly to get there, we don't know, but we do support Hong Kong's efforts. Violence is scary, and her being away from me there for an extended time makes me worry, but China is definitely guilty of human rights violations.
Personally I hate to see citizens anywhere destroying things in the country they live in,whether it be in Hong Kong or here in the USA when we have had riots.
How about voting - like majority rules. Also what freedom are you talking about? From what I gather, the ones who are getting burned and beaten are those who disagree with the anarchists? Is this your idea freedom?
Jeannette, first you need to know something about Hong Kong; they cannot vote Carrie Lam out of office, nor can they simply vote against mainland China's laws, so they must protest to get any results, which they actually did, but having Lam remove the extradition bill. Second, while it is a complex situation it not as simple as anarchists versus others; there are several groups, but the main issue is mainland China is attempting to exercise increased imperialistic rule over Hong Kong. The police officers in Hong Kong were the first ones to draw blood. I am not defending all protestors, but most of them are either non-violent or not attacking others. Some of the grievances besides direct mainland China rule are: unlawful evictions, unpaid wages, and unfair arrests. Freedom is not a concept here, like how we debate freedom in the US; freedom here means Hong Kong becoming autonomous. Hong Kong has a separate judiciary and currency from mainland China, but they need to become autonomous; no need to go back to the UK. There are certainly violent protestors and they have increased in number. The violence is starting to increase, but police in Hong Kong can help reduce this via not becoming violent themselves: https://foreignpolicy.com/2019/11/1...ing-lam-xi-hong-kong-violence-will-get-worse/
I gather you're not Chinese. From what I noticed, those who the anarchists are setting on fire and beating with rods are Chinese. Could it be that the Chinese living there are not going along with their agendas? I think so! Shouldn't the original Chinese inhabitants have a greater voice in the future of Hong Kong than some foreigners, who might have their own self interests and agenda's and who are probably paying the anarchists?
Under Chinese law, governing nationality if one is a Hong Kong resident, former resident, or of Chinese descent an individual is considered Chinese. No I am not Chinese, but I have many Chinese friends in both mainland China and Hong Kong. Racially speaking, Most of Hong Kong's inhabitants are Asaian/Chinese and the protestors are also mostly Chinese even though most Hong Kong citizens identify as Hong Kongers. My filipina gf is certainly not protesting. Should the colonies not revolted against the British?
What many are unaware of is that when the British lease ran out in 1997, Hong Kong was given semi autonomy for a transition period of 50 years. In 2047 it goes back to full Chinese control, but these riots may make the agreement void and the Chinese will take it back sooner.
There is a lot of truth in that statement, but mainland China provoked Hong Kong. Also there are provisions to halt a return of Hong Kong to full control under China.
I'll tell you what the difference is. The colonists did it on their own initiatives, they did not have the CIA and Soros' regime changing NGO's gearing young people to protest for their own self interests. They should have kicked the NGO's out with the first protests three years ago.
Mainland China did nothing to provoke Hong Kong. Some guy in Hong Kong murdered his girl friend while in Taiwan and then went back to Hong Kong. The police in Taiwan want him to be sent back to be tried for murder. To remedy the situation, the extradition laws in Hong Kong was changed and that's how the riots started. Here's some objected news from a non MSM newspaper. https://today.line.me/hk/pc/article...ected+killer’s+return+to+Taipei+end+it-QLVPOr
Mr. Chan is willing to surrender to Taiwan and it is unfortunate the murder he committed but it does not give China the right to extradite.
In fact, now Taiwan is refusing to take Chan Tong-Kai back, without Hong Kong providing more evidence of the crime. Well, more recently, Taiwan, reversed its stance, but China does not want Taiwanese officers to escort him from Hong Kong, so this dispute between Hong Kong and Taiwan, is also amplified by mainland China.
I think rioters at Hong Kong lost touch with reality. China can literally turn the whole area into a parking lot.
I mentioned Soros because his Open Society Foundation supports NGO's like USAID in foreign countries, as well as countless other organizations. He's an ideologue and works towards bringing about a liberal one world order and government. His organizations have been banned in many countries because they cause problems. They were active for years in Ukraine before the coup, and for years in Syria before the fighting began. Hong Kong should have realized this when the first protests began about 3 years ago, and should have kicked out the NGO's.
It is for Hong Kong to say, for one, and for human rights, since China is one of the largest global human rights offenders, next to say, Saudi Arabia. However, yes I can say that.
Considering how many time we have broken international law - And considering the countries we invaded illegally - And the thousands of civilians we have killed and maimed - And the hundreds of thousands that have been killed and maimed because of the chaos we caused - And our blatant thievery of nations assets - It's us, and not Saudi Arabia or China that holds the title of being the world's largest global human rights offender. We'll go now and free them all to show them that we're standing tall besides them, as they fight and kill each other. But never think that the melee will make us go away. When what it does is stir us on for more each passing day.- Jeannette
The US is guilty of plenty. I don't and cannot disagree at all there, but this does not mean we are the worst offenders. Saudi Arabia beheads it's own citizens and China does unspeakable horrors...
