I think all bans, whether temporary or permanent, should be published along with the reason why. That would be an Admiral Bing thing, 'to encourage the others'.
There's nothing stopping that from happening anyway. We had that happen in my other forum. Unfortunately, one poster used the memorial thread to air all his personal grievances against the deceased.
To be fair, I agreed with many of the points he was making but I would never have said them out loud. Everyone deserves a right to reply.

Well, that's not true. Stalin and Hitler spring to mind. Being obnoxious on an obscure internet forum didn't really qualify him for that treatment though. Especially as the deceased poster had friends on the site who were dealing with their grief. After being rounded on by almost everyone, including myself, the detractor did eventually repent and post an apology.
