Feminists very often complain about the lack of female role models and society's undermining of influential female figures in history. Since Feminism is an ideology of poor standards and vulgarity, the females they choose to praise are - almost always - vulgar and boasty individuals such as Kimberle Crenshaw and Amy Schumer. Therefore, I start this thread so that we can share our picks for women who should be considered "Feminist role models", but who aren't recognised as such by the movement itself. My pick is Ayn Rand because she is the epitome of a strong and independent woman who has authored the most important novels of recent times and who was also a hardcore and principled adovate of individual freedom and Liberty.
Boudicca and Joan of Arc . Different times and different wars. Both pretty bad ass. Oh and my own Granmother... incredibly strong, wise, compassionate and interesting woman that lived an amazing life.
No. More people under the age of 30 have been influenced by the morals of Harry Potter than the characters of Ayn Rand. And most feminists are going to point the examples of music moguls like Beyoncé or political figures like Michelle Obama or movie industry titans like Kathleen Kennedy as models of strong female leaders rather than the rather obscure people you claim.
Ayn Rand is - in both action and thought - the full embodiment of the Feminist catch-phrase "strong and independent woman"'. Beyonce sings about sex and dances half-naked in her videos. She is everything Feminists claim to oppose, but for some reason she is upheld to the status of a Goddess.
Beyoncé has created a music company that has made billions of dollars with both here own productions and new talent. Kathleen Kennedy’s production company has created content seen by billions of people and I guarantee that you can find 1000 people who can quote lines from one of here movies before you’ll find one who can quote a line from an Ayn Rand book. And ask 100,000 Americans who Ayn is and then ask those same people who Michelle Obama is.
Yes and that is just that a sad reflection of our society and the exact and very point of this thread - To highlight those strong females who do not get the recognition that they deserve and if you would have bothered reading the OP, you would have known this. Even I can quote more Beyonce lines than I can do of Ayn Ran'ds dito. But, so what?
Ayn Rand was such a weak figure that she was unable to negotiate a book deal that kept her from poverty despite having relatively good book sales. Why should people look to her for inspiration? Why not look to Supreme Court Justice RGB? Why not look to JK Rowling whose book deals have made her one of the wealthiest and most influential authors the world has ever seen?
Hey, the thread is open for suggestions. I made mine and you are free to make yours. Ayn Rand's books are great.
Your claim was that Ayn Rand’s books were the most influential since the Bible. Maybe next time stay away from the bull crap hyperbole in the first place.
So the 1.2 billion Muslims in the world are influenced more by Atlas Shrugged than by the Koran. Interesting theory you have there.
Hell, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance has sold more copies than Atlas Shrugged. 7 million isn’t a huge best seller.
stop putting us in neat little compartments. Nothing like a guy who is again sex for unmarried women to tell women who their role models should be. Thanks for mansplaining. I kinda like Gloria Steinem and Meryl Streep and RBG and the millions of young women fighting for equality
