I cannot cure anyone, to cure there must be an illness or disease. You didn't answer my question. How do addicts stop?
That's very speculative. There are centers where these addicts can go (especially in California) to get prescribed doses of methadone to help reduce withdrawal symptoms if they are trying to quit. Think I read somewhere that they use ordinary Ritalin to help ease meth withdrawal symptoms. This woman had already had two prior babies who tested positive for drugs. She already had plenty of time to try to quit. Quitting drugs can be difficult and result in severe physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms, but it is still a choice. The only category addicts truly have no control over is opioids, and even then there have been a few people who were able to quit by themselves.
What aspect of life does not qualify as being hard, however? Becoming a nurse was obviously a difficult endeavor to undertake, but such obviously did not justify or otherwise warrant cheating in the form of purchasing exam answers in order to pass.
If the woman is put in prison for one year, and then after being let out, she goes back to meth, would you say that would be her fault then? Would it be a deliberate choice she's making, in that situation, since the withdrawal period would have already been long over?
In other words you don't hold her responsible for her drug use. Even after what it did to her baby. (Or is that not that bad to you? because you're an Abortion supporter, after all)
I've long suspected there may be some genetic component. Probably prefrontal cortex having to do with self-control. If you look at the states whose populations used to be farmers, they are the conservative states today. Farmers would not have been able to keep the farm running if they did not make prudent decisions. States that formerly engaged in logging and mining tend not to be Conservative today. This is not to say Conservatives can't develop drug problems and become addicted, of course, but it does help explain the gulf in attitudes between the two groups. (And it's not to say the Conservative way is necessarily better in all ways. If we were all Asian Chinese I have no doubt we would be living in a society under a pretty strict disciplinarian authoritarian government. The liberal way is pretty foreign to Chinese/Japanese/Korean societies)
That's correct but I can't make them use will power. Again, how does an addict stop? Avoiding a question is usually a sign that you know you can't answer effectively.
The AMA used to classify being gay as a mental illness. I would take their word with a pinch of salt.
No one knows the answer- that is why we have no “ cure”. However I am sure if you post enough condemnations online that will be enough to cure a whole stack of addicts
We know the answer. An addict stops when they choose to not take whatever drug/drink they take. Therefore it is a choice.
Yes and no I have met drug addicts and the last thing they want in life is to continue being a drug addict but the alternative is the equivalent of breaking both legs and then trying to get better by yourself alone in a wilderness. Yes it can be done but not by everyone
I can't, they have to want to. It all comes down to their own willpower and desire. If they don't have that then they will never stop. There is no cure for addiction except willpower.
How can you "cure" something with "willpower" if it is not an illness or a disease according to your own assertion in #229 above?
