https://www.politico.com/news/2019/12/13/china-confirms-preliminary-trade-deal-with-us-084390 I'm happy to announce that as I predicted Trump will not implement his last round of tariffs on consumer goods. It would seem more like the trade war is being gradually reversed. China promises to buy more agricultural products and the US reduces tariffs and does not implement the next round. In addition there is some vague discussions on property rights and currency manipulation. The whole thing smells of a bad joke.
Going to make some more money of exploiting Asian sweat shop labor for cheap products.. A living wage for Americans be damned !!!!!!
The tariffs were a negotiating ploy, that apparently is working. No doubt China is hoping some pushover Dem gets elected.
Worked so help Trump had to steal from taxpayers to give to the farmers. To boot, the lobster industry fell through and China is now buying from Canada. Wierd what Trump supporters call winning.
It should be noted that this particular agreement is only to resolve a portion of the trade war with China, which is phase 2 of the tariff increases. What it appears this particular agreement is looking to resolve is the impact that this trade war has had on our agriculture industry, which is important since we have been having to spend substantial amounts on bailouts to offset this impact. The phase 1 tariffs still remain, and the dispute over US intellectual properties is still to be negotiated 1. Those workers in Asia would be left much worse off if we were to outright stop buying their products 2. When talking about "living" wages, we are talking about income vs cost of living. By trading with countries like China, we are decreasing the overall cost of living for Americans. Which is beneficial to both the employed and the unemployed. Yes, there are trade offs, but if you look at the most prospering economies in the world, they are all countries with fewer restrictions on international trade
Opposed to Obama stealing from the tax payers to pay for food stamps and other benefits for illegals. I would rather see my money go to the Farmers
How thoughtful of you to speak for workers in other countries. I wonder how many of them feel exploited.
I just find it hard to believe we couldn't have offset the loss of Chinese consumption, with increased trade with other partners. It's absurd how we're essentially tied to the toot of the Chinese government.
No one is forcing you to buy Chinese-made products. Was it stealing before Trump? Under which president could you refuse to pay taxes and still keep your home, your bank account, or your retirement?
I heard it's crap... it's a settlement, with a lot of deferrals, so both sides can claim some sort of victory.... But if it prevents President Lardass from bumping more tariffs, it's not a bad thing overall....
Yeah, they surely would prefer their conditions to ours here! http://www.facing-finance.org/en/database/cases/working-conditions-in-foxconn-factories-in-china/
Working 11 to 13 hours a day beats the hell out of starving. Do you think most Chinese workers are thankful for their jobs?
This was one of two areas I was hoping Trump would deliver on (the other was infrastructure). In all fairness, Trump never had a chance. Americans don't have the stomach to do what needs to be done to really take on China.
Many have no choice. Ask a Chinese farmer about his choices. Also, do you not recall when the stories of Foxconn were leaked about Foxconn employees jumping from windows. The suicide rate for workers in China is staggering.
Hogwash! Trump’s massively hyped trade deal is such a preliminary step that it’s not even getting rid of the tariffs he’s put in place. The 25% tariff on over $250 billion of Chinese products is untouched.
I actually think it's not over yet. China is on the precipice of imploding and these tariffs on Chinese goods are a death by a thousand cuts. I think Trump is capitulating because of the impeachment, looking to move the market needle up.
Yup. Trump has made a habit of calling LOSING "Winning", and (apparently) his "Supporters" agree with that characterization (even though it is Trump's Coffee Cloud Fantasy). Puzzling.:smh:
I assure you that my emotions will be untouched by anything you post. If you had a genuine concern for the American worker, you wouldn't mind having a polite discussion about it. Ill start by asking where your shoes were made:
Exactly he made the same "deal" claim a year ago, it is as fake today as it was a year ago! Donald J. Trump ✔@realDonaldTrump Farmers will be a a very BIG and FAST beneficiary of our deal with China. They intend to start purchasing agricultural product immediately. We make the finest and cleanest product in the World, and that is what China wants. Farmers, I LOVE YOU! 7:01 AM - Dec 3, 2018
I wear carhartt clothes made in the USA and I can give care less about the living wage. The one that cares about the living wage/ $15 dollar an hour minimum wage are the ones who continue to buy sweat shop goods .
