Seriously . . . why are you making this **** up? What possible purpose does it serve and how do you sleep at night afterward?

Word is he had been homeless, which could be a strong signal that he was mentally ill.

And if he can't buy a gun it will obviously stop him attacking people, won't it?

Depends on what neighborhood they march into like that - when the first row of antifa goons hit the ground with their blood spattered over the 2nd, they will know fear.

Not under federal law - which applies in Texas.

Because 6 seconds after he started shooting, he was dead, or on the ground dying.

WHAT?? Had there not been armed citizens there the death toil could have been 20+ and you say this was not a win for those armed citizens? The evil was there, they were facing it eye to eye and you think taking him out with just 2 deaths instead of 20+ is not a win, amazing.

Ahh I would beg to differ, a short barrel buckshot loaded shotgun will take out far more and do more damage in just one shot than with a pistol in such close quarters.

I have no reason not to take your word. What I'm wondering is if only those on the security team drew weapons or also people who were not on the team. Just curious.

Have you seriously never shot a handgun or a shotgun before . . . at all?

My wife and I bought our first handguns this year - both Beretta's. I've never fired a shotgun so I'd actually like to hear you explain it how he's wrong. Genuinely curious.

Also, Wyrd might learn something. Maybe.

To be perfectly frank, I may be the one learning something here. That's probably the most likely scenario. Still, I have a 20 gauge pump and a .380 semi-auto pistol. There's no doubt in my mind right now that I could do more damage in a confined space with the shotgun. Each shot from the shotgun is basically several pistol shots at once, and I don't have to aim them nearly as well. Again, though, there's probably things I haven't taken into account. I never bought a weapon or fired a weapon with mass murder in mind.

That I don't know, but those that I saw weren't concerned with each other and all approached the BG in a concerted manor. I would think that a random guy with an LTC would protect those around him, but wouldn't rush the shooter for fear of becoming a target to other people with guns. I know I would keep as low of a profile as possible.

I've watched the footage a few times now. I'm hardly an expert, but can anyone tell me how the defending shooters could have possibly handled the situation any better?

A shotgun takes 2 hands to operate. Most shotguns are pump action and have a capacity of 5-8 rounds. Someone moderately proficient with a shotgun will be able to fire a round every 1/2 to 3/4 second or so. With a lot of practice, you can reload at will between shots when possible. This guy seemed to take about 1 second for each shot. With the right ammo, a shotgun round is more deadly, but a semiauto pistol can hold more rounds and be reloaded more quickly. It can be fired as quickly as the trigger can be pulled. The pistol can be more easily concealed and more quickly drawn and fired. Which is best for home defense? Go with what you know. I have a 12ga, but I typically shoot at an indoor range where shotguns aren't allowed. I use my pistol for home defense because I shoot it much more often.

Wyrd is right, but that's not what the BG had. A high capacity pistol can shoot more people more quickly, but each round is not as lethal as a 12ga with buck shot or slugs.

I'm no expert either. I pointed out 2 things that I thought got the 2 defenders killed. The first victim stood up and squared up with the BG before drawing his gun and he had trouble getting his gun out of the holster. A shoulder holster would have been an easier draw and he may have had more time if he drew his gun before standing up and shot the BG before he shot anybody. He was 67 years old and a large waste isn't your friend in an IWB holster.

The second man who was killed was the man that the BG initially approached. The BG asked him a question and he turned and pointed to the back of the room. When he did that, he couldn't see the BG pulling out his gun until it was too late. He may have had an opportunity to rush the shooter and wrestle for control of the shotgun, but he hesitated.

The head of security who shot the BG said in an interview that people were in his way and a head shot was the only shot possible. That's a ballsy shot, but he pulled it off.

Okay, thanks. Our Beretta's are for home defense - that's why we wanted to get them - and the store we bought them from recommended them for that purpose considering we're noobs. We will probably get a couple more sometime next year.

Most important is practice. It might be better to spend the money on professional training.

    There's an old saying.

Beware of the man with only one gun. He likely knows how to shoot it.

Nice choice. Wondering if they recommended a particular ammo for self defense, or did you go with FMJ?

Ah - there's a training place in Vegas we're members of. I'm not sure if mentioning the name of it is a violation of PF rules though.
