If you thought the Soviet Union died, then you are sadly mistaken because it didn't. It moved here with all its evils - and by here I don't mean only the US, but the whole Anglosphere. The journalist Vaughan Smith spoke to Assange on Christmas, and said he had trouble speaking and sounded like a shell of the man he was before. Although Assange didn't say it, he sounded as if he was drugged. First of all Assange shouldn't be in a high security prison when he's not a danger to anyone. That prison is for terrorists and murderers. The only crime Assange committed was skipping bail. He's also in solitary confinement, and for what reason? It has to be something more than just revenge, (although going against Clinton like he did, can be a dangerous enterprise). So what excuse does Washington and by extension Britain, have for doing this to Assange? The only reason I can think of is as an example to others who would dare question our actions. GULAG anyone? “His speech was slurred. He was speaking slowly. Now, Julian is highly articulate, a very clear person when he speaks. And he sounded awful… it was very upsetting to hear him” British authorities have so far refused to divulge whether Assange has been given psychotropic drugs in prison, insisting only that they aren’t “mistreating” him. But given that he is “being kept in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day,” with requests by numerous doctors to examine his physical condition denied, Smith said he has a hard time taking the officials at their word. “Julian was extremely good company over Christmas in 2010,” the journalist said, but the man he talked to on the phone last week sounded like a different person. “I just don’t understand… why he’s in Belmarsh Prison in the first place. He’s a remand prisoner. He’s not a danger to the public." https://www.rt.com/uk/477138-assange-prison-awful-sedated-uk/
It's very likely that being trapped in that embassy for 7 years had a very detrimental impact on his physical and mental health. I think people are underestimating the effect of such a long period of lack of physical activity (not to mention lack of mental stimulation and constant stress caused by fear). There's a big connection between brain health and physical health, lack of blood circulation from sitting around in one place is not good for the brain. With everything that's happened to him, it wouldn't be that surprising that his mental sharpness would be much less than it used to be.
Meng Wanzhou is still trapped in Amazing what enlightened governments can do to a person once they set their sights on it. Ref.: Ruby Ridge Although "pardoned" by Trump, the Federals denied the Hammonds their usual grazing permits! Someone should tell the Prez. My father worked for Voice of America and use to get 1AM phone calls from Roy Cohn who was targeting, VOA. I grew up with that history. The West has their political prisoners as certain as North Korea does! Truth, Justice and the American Way are GWTW!Here in this pretty world Gallantry took its last bow circa 1955 I figure. Look for it only in books, for it is no more than a dream remembered. . . the fifties. THE WEST HAS POLITICAL PRISONERS TOO. And More Than Just Prisoners. psst, Ruby Ridge & Waco too Moi FREE Meng Wanzhou!
Related thread on this here: Arrest of Huawei financial officer demonstrates U.S. willingness to impose its laws abroad Assange is certainly not the only questionable case of the US seeking to arrest persons abroad who never committed a crime on US soil.
The Brits are keeping him locked up on charges of breaching bail conditions, but what they really want is for him to be extradited either to Sweden to face sexual assault charges or to the US to face charges under the Espionage Act. He took refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy for 7 years and they got sick of him. He started smearing feces on the walls in the embassy and went days without washing or changing his clothes. The embassy said he was confrontational to embassy guards and ate everything with his hands and he always wiped his fingers on his pants. But the straw that broke the camel's back in the embassy was when Ecuador President Lenin Moreno suggested that Julian Assange had been intercepting the president’s private messages and had even leaked “photos of my bedroom, what I eat, and how my wife and daughters and friends dance,” https://gizmodo.com/julian-assange-accused-of-leaking-president-of-ecuadors-1833770880 https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/23/...wikileaks-national-defense-justice-department The Justice Department has filed 17 new criminal charges against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. The charges follow a much more limited indictment unsealed in April, when Assange was charged with violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. According to the indictment, he’s now facing several counts of obtaining and disclosing national defense information without authorization, relating to what the Justice Department calls “one of the largest compromises of classified information in the history of the United States.” Julian Assange is a piece of crap nutjob and should rot in some prison, no matter where it is.
Every day Assange isn't pardonned by Trump is a black mark on Trumps credibility. Same with Roger Stone (starting the day he's actually sentenced).
Almost every Trump supporter I know is demanding he be brought to America, pardoned, then put in front of Congress to spill the info in public. Trump has consistently changed tactics after his base is up in arms about something and all the "high level" Trump commentators say that Trump wants to help Assange. As everything in politics, the answer is "we'll see because they will all lie to get what they want, including Trump who I do support. From the looks of it, the UK is refusing to release him .... but why? It's not like they are taking care of him or planning to release him, they literally have him in solitary confinement. https://www.rt.com/uk/414442-assange-files-tribunal-maurizi/ If Trump brings him to the US and doesn't pardon him, he will have a lot of problems with his supporters. Assange pretty much proved that there is no way it could have been a "Russian Hack" as the data transfer rate would only be possible from a flash drive type device. In fact, he told a Republican congress woman that he would prove there was no hack, is this why he is being held by the UK in solitary confinement? https://thehill.com/policy/cybersec...ressman-vows-to-prove-russia-did-not-leak-him It's quite obvious now that Democrats don't want him to see the light of day and Republicans want to hear him talk. Should be interesting to watch
The "sexual assault" charges in Sweden are far less serious than they sound, due to the way radical feminists in that country have gotten the law to define "sexual violation". Even if convicted, he likely would not get more than 8 or 14 months in prison. (A little too complicated to get into the full story here. Let's just say what he is accused of doing in Sweden would likely not be treated as a crime in the US) The whole situation around extradition to Sweden would almost entirely center around extradition to the US, since once in that country, it would be Sweden who would then get to determine whether he would be extradited to the US. Assange has never been worried about the any potential punishment for the charges in Sweden (which would be relatively trivial). It has always been about the worry of extradition to the US.
Yes we do, but that's too long of a story to fully get into here. It would derail this thread. We've formerly discussed it in detail in past threads. Both of the women were persons Assange was involved in a consensual sexual relationship with. They mostly got mad when they found out he had been two-timing each of them and sleeping with the other woman. I really hate to have to repeat the details of this because I feel it distracts from the primary issues in this story. Those who say "Assange is a rapist so I don't care what happens to him" are incredibly misinformed and ignorant about the details of the story.
I'm not going to talk to you about this here. Go read about it yourself. We are not going to derail this thread.
No need to talk about anything. I'm just stating the fact that unless this has been confirmed in a court of law, (or at least in a police report) then it is irrelevant.
What do you mean by "confirmed in a court of law"? Do you mean with Assange there and given a chance to defend himself against the evidence? If that is what you mean, then very little so far has actually been "confirmed in a court of law".
It's amazing that people will not care about a man just because he's been accused of things people do not exactly understand.
Exactly what is it you assert that I personally do not exactly understand, and on what basis can you credibly assert so?
I don't think he wasn't. I don't know who he was talking to, but what makes you think he was talking to you?
Judgement? Assange has already been formerly arrested, then forcibly arrested again, and now sentenced to a year in prison for skipping bail and fleeing into the embassy, despite the fact that no evidence of any original crime has been "confirmed in a court of law" yet. How's that for fair? And he will likely be extradited against his will to the US, despite the US not having "confirmed in a court of law" any evidence yet. That's why I don't think you really gave much thought to what you wrote. It's completely senseless and meaningless.
