Here is a thread where you need not clutch on to your partisan pearls. =) https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...ff-luhnow-aj-hinch-suspended-year/4456644002/ Major League Baseball dealt the most severe punishment against a team in its history Monday by suspending Houston Astros GM Jeff Luhnow and manager A.J. Hinch for a year for their role in using electronic equipment to steal signs, while fining the organization $5 million and stripping them of first- and second-round draft picks in 2020-2021. An hour later, Astros owner Jim Crane announced that Luhnow and Hinch were both fired. “I felt with what came out in the report they both had responsibilities," Crane said. “Neither one of them started this but neither one of them did anything about it." The message sent was clear: Baseball will not permit cheating in baseball, and the next organization that uses illegal electronic equipment will be dealt even a harsher penalty. =============================================================== So... should they be stripped of their World Series Title? When you look at their home game box scores, compared to their away games during the World Series, the numbers are incredible. Their middle line up batters have a batting average swing of over .300 !!! I think this is life time ban stuff. They deprived other teams from an honest shot at the Championship. They did this through the season, playoffs, and World Series. In this thread you can agree with members that you never agree with.
Nah. It ISN'T "Lifetime Ban" Stuff. A Year Suspension seems Fair. Of course, they could be "Blacklisted" (behind the scenes). Still, it wouldn't surprise me if Hinch (eventually) gets another chance. Red Sox Mgr. Alex Cora could be Next: https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...-next-alex-coras-punishment-harsh/4457751002/ As far as "stripping the 2017 WS Title"? I DON'T see that happening.
The analytic wonders cheated :O, color me shocked lol. And yes, they should be stripped of the title. Stealing signs(from the catcher) is like reading into the pitcher's mind. This is just like Spygate and Belichick's cheating.
There are many things that I would "Like" to do if I was the MLB Commish. However, I Don't See Manfred taking that sort of DRASTIC Step (that would retroactively rewrite history).
They are trying to change the results of an election.... and somebody outted the whistleblower (Mike Fiers) Ha Ha I also highly doubt the title will be stripped (he likely would have already done it)... I didn't see the MLB report in the OP, so here it is... only 9 pages.. probably worth the read, which I will do later... https://www.scribd.com/document/442795815/MLB-Astros-Report#from_embed
MLB should allow affirmative action so that they may keep the title it is okay for the astros to cheat because they do not have as much money as the yankees
Was Cora with the Astros prior? If so, he could be the root of all this. The Dodgers (World Series) and Yankees (American League Championship) got screwed by the Astros. The Red Sox and the Astros seemed to have battled it out to see who got the privilege of cheating the Dodgers in the World Series in 2018.
Astros do not vacate their 2017 World Series title for their sign-stealing violations, source says. However, MLB has suspended GM Jeff Luhnow and manager AJ Hinch for one year each, fined the Astros $5 million and stripped them of first and second picks in 2020 and '21 drafts. ___________ Nobody EVER Expected the Commish to Actually Strip the Title. That "Possibility" was Never even on the Table
If you are really curious, read the MLB report I posted in #7... it's pretty good, but in a nutshell, if the batter knows what pitch is coming, that gives most hitters a huge advantage, since a good amount of pitching success is trying to fool the batter. The catcher tells the pitcher (via finger signs between his legs) what pitch to throw, since the catcher needs to know as well.
I think we should put the MLB in charge of the DOJ. Sounds like they take rules seriously. I think it's funny that people who play a silly game get a more harsh punishment than people who attempt a coup.
The Astros are the New England Patriots of MLB. Cheater cheater got caught with your hand on your peter.
This could lead to the pitcher and catcher wearing headsets and the coaches calling the pitches like they do in footbal. The infielders would also have to know the pitches.
If a batter knows the pitch coming, his odds on hitting it are far greater. The Astros hitting percentage was WAY UP during their home games.
It sounds like it was always part of the game to decipher and utilize the other teams codes until remote video equipment became proliferated. So electronics were banned from being used. So it wasn't that the Astros stole the codes, but that they used electronics to do it. Which is factually cheating.
As a Dodgers and MLB fan, I think they should be stripped of the title. I haven't read the thread yet, curious to see if the trumpanzees and lefties have started to congeal to opposite sides of the question.
