There will always be those for a more authoritarian and intrusive government.

How do they how much to take out if you don't file your income and deductions? And the federal government cannot tell a state how they will tax their citizens so take the word state out of it. The states would never accept it let alone the citizens voting through their representatives for such an amendment.

The IRS uses that stuff. Can you not follow a link?

If your stupidass amendment would come to pass, that'd be the last day I lived in this country.

Do you plan to go to a country without infrastructure? Every country in the industrialised world does automatic taxes

How about a 15% flat tax for every taxpayer and business. There would be no need to file and there would be no refund checks to print. Janitor or CEO everyone pay 15%. There also would be no reason to not raise the minimum wage.

The idea would only work with a flat tax and an honest IRS. You wouldn't have to pay for a stamp to put on the postcard to send your tax return in on.

What's better is that with a flat tax all is out in the open if congress tries to raise the rate, with a lot more potential for bringing on a taxpayer revolution with everybody's ox getting equally gored.

No they aren't. I cited the laws saying you are liable for Federal Income taxes. And Congress already has the power to collect taxes.

Reid also says you must pay your taxes; that if you don't you are subject to civil and criminal penalties. He is trying to argue a far more subtle point.

Like Harry Reid said, our system is voluntary.

Because it is every patriotic American's duty to try to cheat on their taxes as much as they can. This removes this opportunity.

The only other option is to eliminate taxes altogether.

Taxes pay for services. Unless you want to go back to private police, private fire fighters, private education, private roads and all that stuff.

The amount you owe from year to year can change, and there are many variables that figure in to arriving at the correct amount of tax.

Surprised Harry doesn’t know case history

That’s a payroll tax case. Harry Reid was still correct.

I always find it amusing when people begin to fling arbitrary court rulings around in order to justify an opinion, and love it when corrupt congressmen like Reid comment on the laws.

The United States Federal Government has a Monopoly of Force, and that is all the reasoning it needs to compel you to pay taxes. It hold the barrel of a gun to you head, with implied and not so implied threats of loss of freedom and the fruits of your labor.

See kids, the law don't mean jack. A court is simply just another group of politicians, and their task is to help the rest of the ruling elite get away with as much as possible without triggering a revolution. There's nothing special about them over any other politician, really.

Still doesn’t change the fact that our system is voluntary.

The word “voluntary,” as used in Flora and in IRS publications, refers to our system of allowing taxpayers initially to determine the correct amount of tax and complete the appropriate returns, rather than have the government determine tax for them from the outset.
