At one percent what must give? I suggest America's entire army, navy and air force. That would leave its nuclear forces. And every war thereafter must be a nuclear one.
I'm not worried about the Germans. They have no serious military capability. After WWII the Germans realised blunt military force was not the way to gain supremacy over the continent. Instead influence and try to lead a protectionist trade bloc and lead with soft power. Force regulatory compliance and bankrupt poor nations when they can't use monetary policy to get themselves out of fiscal irresponsibility. When you can't print your way out of debt because a largely unaccountable supranational protectionist bloc holds the monetary levers, you have to go running to... surprise surprise... the Fourth Reich.
Nah, just lots of cheap anti-tank missiles. The age of "big and powerful" is over. Now, it's small, accurate and lethal. Anything as large as a tank, and especially as gigantic as a ship and aircraft carriers, are expensive sitting ducks waiting to pollute the waters they sink in. Weapons without humans attached to or in them will sweep what in the past served as battlefields. The side that puts people on a front line will be the side that suffers enormous casualties to no effect. We have not realized, collectively, that we have to reinvent how humans function on this planet. Politics and economics must be entirely revised, and warfare must disappear.
We are always fighting the last war. I thought about that when Israel lost all those tanks in Lebanon, and in the 1973 Yom Kippur. What will tomorrow bring? Perhaps cyber war, lasers, rail guns (?) satellites and maybe kinetic weapons in orbit.
In German we use that synonymous. I think having 6 ships with railguns against hypersonic weapons is a good thing
Who are Germany's enemies ? 6 Billion $ better spent to save global heating or other important issues.
the hood was a WWI battle cruiser that had so many refit to the point that it was barelly sea worthy. Battle cruiser aren't able, by design, to go against battleship. their role is to go against cruisers. the bismark was outgun by british battleship and had no chance when confronted by the rodney and king george V which outgun her by a wide margin. Germany never was a first class naval power. It always was a waste of lives and ressources. the only thing the german sailors are good for is making fish snacks.
Let's not forget Bismarck's twin, the Tirpitz, which one historian wrote, "lived an invalid's life and died a cripple's death."
Invented back in 1918 by Louis Octave Fauchon-Villeplee and patented in 1922. So we have had them for just over 100 years yet today we still fire artillery projectiles by packing explosive behind the projectile in a closed tube and lighting the fuse. If the rail gun was somehow better why are we not all using them today to kill each other?
As long as Germany can say that they can defend themselves, that's all that's needed from me. I don't need an arbitrary number, just German readiness in case the alliance should be attacked.
