I never have claimed to be overly intelligent, but then all the smart people in Germany around 1945 probably wished they had listened to their morons.
I used to think that but he's far more Stalinesque, and his followers copy the 1930's Communists nearly word for word.
With the exception of most everything in his entire administration, I have to agree. His followers have been especially adept a reviving the old technique of whataboutism and using it to a degree rivaling that of even the most ardent Bolshevik acolytes in the old Soviet Union. ( Listening to Trumpers I have to constantly remind myself that Hillary is no longer campaigning and Obama has not been President for some time)
Stalin took power over the Soviet Union at age 49 -- more of a young man, like Obama, rather than an older man like Trump. Stalin ruled for 26 years. Trump won't in any wise be able to do that.
Bernie's still my choice; what's not to like re single payer health, debt free tertiary education and the GND? Delivered via a Fed (central bank) governed by Stephanie Kelton (instead of Powell who Trump hates........) And a fabulous team of women: Tulsi Gabbard for defence or secretary of state, and AOC for the GND....
I like you as a poster, because your perspective regarding the future of this nation and the world is just as bleak as mine; and plus, you are the better writer.
Because FDR didn't just squeal the meaningless phrases of 'Hope for Change!' and 'Yes We Can!'. He actually forced changes to happen as president. People appreciated that he was trying like hell even when he failed to change much that mattered until the war sucked the U.S. into the action.
So results don't matter, just that one seems to try? Sorry, that's weak as water and you know it. Besides, even as dyed in the wool conservative as yourself just HAS to admit that Obama actually did MORE than Roosevelt., either that or the 2nd Great Depression which was being presaged by greater bank collapses in 2008 than in 1929 didn't have nearly the amount of Hoovervilles and Woody Guthrie wannbes you might expect
Obama did little more than race-agitate for eight years and bad mouth this nation. That made only the political Left happy. The national economy reeked under Obama-nomics for all that time. The MSM collectively swore that their sacred Anointed One walked on water . . . but, alas, there was never any evidence of that.
Did you spend a considerable amount of your time from 2008 to 2016 riding boxcars around the country looking for work and having the majority of places tell you "Keep moving, we can't take care of our own?" Was unemployment ever 25%, even in the Liar-in-Chief's fevered brain? Did you and thousands like you have to uproot yourselves and travel thousands of miles just to find work as a field hand? If you didn't, thank Obama And that all happened over and over for a decade under Roosevelt, yet he was re-elected 4x and is still seen as our Greatest President by many The economy is one thing but Trump is the worst incipient dictator we've had in this century, indeed, the worst I can recall in all of American History. I don't think most of us want to lose all our rights just to have a nice portfolio.
Thank you, Gatewood, for your kind appraisal of my 'abilities', such as they are. But I would tell you without faux-modesty that if I seem to have an interesting perspective, it is only because I'm an old guy who has lived through a LOT of 'interesting' times. And I've been very fortunate... if just a few things in those times had been even a little bit different, I could have been harmed, or, enriched greatly. The sheer arbitrariness of events in our lives is often underrated as a very important factor to us as individuals... our personal 'worth' notwithstanding'.... Anyway, back on topic, if Trump will let the Senate Republicans finally clean up this 'impeachment' pile of sh!t, and if the economy can even tread-water during 2020 (mostly because of 'money-printing' by the Fed, and this undeclared "QE4" it started last fall), he'll almost certainly be re-elected. BUT -- he needs to quit 'telegraphing' EVERY punch, and get the hell off Twitter. Just sayin'....
My ideal president would be an impossible 'mash-up' synthesis of the best parts of John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan. I truly do LIKE old Bernie, but he would wreck this capitalist economy -- and, surprisingly, Mikey Bloomberg might actually be the best choice for you on the Left. Consider: he's actually been the "CEO" of a huge government bureaucracy (New York City), and, he's also been a spectacularly successful business person. I think he could actually win (especially with FIFTY BILLION DOLLARS to spend on ads)! Biden's done... a victim of his own boundless, corrupt stupidity which, thanks to his own garrulous MOUTH, is now well known all over the planet. As soon as your faction has milked this unconstitutionally-constructed 'impeachment' farce for everything they can get out of it, ol' Joe will be discarded before the next Democrat Convention, like a dirty diaper....
I think that everyone would feel a bit better if he would lay off Twitter, yes. Perhaps after he wins his second term he will shift into a different personna; since at that point what the Dems think of him will be meaningless. But we shall see.
It appears the mishandling of the coronavirus might cause Trump to lose. The virus hadn't become widespread when I created this poll in January 2020.
Given the present neoliberal orthodoxy, yes. But given your contempt for Fed. "money printing", how would Bloomberg or anyone else raise $1 trillion for free tertiary education? In fact, the Left is automatically neutered by neoliberal orthodoxy, because no-one like paying higher taxes. OTOH, AOC could show Bernie - as leader of a sovereign currency issuing government - how to raise those funds without taxing or borrowing from anyone (since the resources inc. teachers colleges and infrastructure already exist). But he would still have to tax or borrow in order to fund desirable government programs, a loser's game not worthy of government. Well they settled on Joe, because people think "Bernie would wreck the capitalist economy". We will certainly see some brain power being devoted to attacking Biden in the next two weeks.. In the meantime no doubt you are OK with Trump's unfunded tax cuts, which combined with the covid-19 rescue packages are likely to result in $10 trillion public debt, before the pandemic is over. (A debt that should not even exist, because the Fed should have simply changed the digits in the bank accounts of unemployed workers).
Have you seen this one yet? It is political dynamite! https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=800460710714094
I'm up to 16 mins....it seems an ideological rant to me. China started the virus to bring down the US economy? Obvious nonsense. Dems and Repubs are both corrupt? Likely. Trump is the guy to heal the US? (forget the rest of the world...) Impossible. Trump's a believer in the survival of the fittest. So the proposition (from the guy in the video) that God sent Trump to save the world is......well, you decide. OTOH, Trump with backing of "rapturers" like Pompeo and Pence is certainly the guy to hasten Armaggedon..........with their total disdain for the UN, and unilateralism based on survival of the fittest. Only problem is: Armaggedon is a fantasy of St. John, writing 3 decades after the destruction of Jerusalem, that envisions Jesus returning "soon" to restore Jerusalem. Fantasy is not a good basis for progressing human affairs. I would rather have Biden defeat Trump, and then have Biden face the music...
Actually no. One of my parent's caretakers when they were growing up was an old woman who happened to be from Germany. (This was not too long after the war) She didn't really want to vote for Hitler but she said the way they saw it, it was either that or the Communists. She had to pick the less worse choice.
Things weren't exactly a cake walk living in Soviet Russia, or Communist Romania for that matter. After the communists invaded Poland, they carried out several massacres which were then conveniently blamed on the Nazis.
