https://www.theguardian.com/politic...be-enthusiastic-if-scotland-applied-to-rejoin He is as he says correct that this will be music to the SNP's ears and to many Scottish people just needing a little more to feel safe to move away from an extreme right in waiting UK Government.
The unelected bureaucrats that run the EU would be glad to have some more suckers kissing their asses and lining their pockets.
And by "extreme right wing" you mean people who want sovereignty of their own nation? Without allowing the EU to create half of their laws? People aren't buying the fear tactics anymore, the Globalist picture has utterly failed and more and more people all around the world realize it. The only thing that makes sense to me with all of this is that people are looking for a global socialist order. They want a top down structure where Elites/Bankers have complete control of the means of production. It shocks me that so many socialists believe this is a good thing, they are being used.
I doubt he's entirely right (or honest) because it's well known that the idea of Scottish independence poses concerns for the Spanish government because it could act as encouragement for the Spanish regions pushing for their own independence. In general terms, I suspect enthusiasm for an independent Scotland joining the EU would depend very much on the strength of it's economy and how much of political mess the process of independence leaves across the UK. A minor but significant side point; Scotland can't rejoin the EU, it can only join the union. It doesn't sound much of a difference but I think the continued misuse of "rejoin" is an effort to gloss over what a long difficult process it would be for a newly independent Scotland to meet all of the necessary criteria.
I would guess the EU would love to get part of the UK back in. They could save some face from that and use it to quiet talk in the future from other members thinking of parting way. Didn't they invite the UK back in as they were leaving? That's kind of like telling the girl leaving you, as she is breaking up with you that you will take her back if she wants
But look on the bright side. If Scotland votes to leave the UK it's a boost to the economy and an end to unemployment. They will need to finish building the wall between England and Scotland that Hadrian started a few centuries ago.
Without declaring total independence from the 'UK' (or 'Great Britain'... or whatever the hell they're calling it now), is it even possible for Scotland to join the EU by itself? This is one of the areas in which I don't know a lot, frankly. If Scotland were somehow able to join the EU on its own, without declaring independence, would Scotland automatically become a convenient dumping ground for the thousands upon thousands of 'refugees' in camps right now in Greece...?
Unelected ? I mean that Brexit thing has going on for 4 Years. By now one should expect that US-folks would have educated themselves a little about how the EU works. But than...…………………….
In this case, scotland is already a member in a political union with another member. If they separate from the UK before the UK leaves the EU officially, they don't have to 'join' as they'd be a legal successor state to the (at the time an EU member state) UK. Only if they leave after the UK is officially out of they leave without London's approval (this last point to protect Spain and Belgium) would they have to actively join the EU.
An independent Scotland would be an economic basketcase. So it's motive to join the EU is pretty clear; to get a taste of those sweet sweet subsidies. But what's in it for the EU? Do member nations want the EU to provide encouragement to other independence movements (I'm looking at you Spain)?
The EU seeing a secessionist state collapse (and keeping 1/2 of said state as a consequence) gains more then it loses. a big motivation for the Levers was inspiring an EU collapse. the UK collapsing instead would turn that negative on its head.
It has did take a while (hmm wonder why??) ....but the people voice was even louder the second time to leave....and then it happened. And it was the U.K. voters who voted to leave in part because they did not feel they had elected leaders in Brussels running things. But what do they know....
You know i read that and saw a long list of typos. I hate that we can't edit posts after someone responds.
