OR maybe something like, it's concerning and we are watching it closely. Currently there are few cases in the US and no reported fatalities.
    You know, the truth.

He did state the truth, it will go away. You seem very angry.

Sure, but how useful is that statement? What is the message he is relaying? Can you think?

Gee, the Chinese authorities said that same exact thing 60 DAYS AGO!

But Trump suggests NOTHING to prepare for this very likely situation 60 days from NOW in the USA! Yeah, great leader indeed!

It completely depends on how widely it spreads. Seasonal flu is less deadly if you are going to get one or the other, but right now you are MUCH more likely to get seasonal flu. If COVID-19 spreads widely, it will be much more deadly than seasonal flu. But that's the big unknown. It's already doing "better" than SARS despite being less deadly on a case-by-case basis. The stock market is responding to the fact that, so far, it is not fizzling like SARS.

Trump saying coronavirus is "going to go away" isn't very helpful. Probably, but the question isn't whether it will eventually go away but rather how much damage it will do first and what he or his underlings are doing about it.

Common flu remains the great killer virus.

"During a typical flu season, up to 500,000 people worldwide will die from the illness, according to WHO. But occasionally, when a new flu strain emerges, a pandemic results with a faster spread of disease and, often, higher mortality rates."

We know it ain't polio. But no government CDC style or WHO style bureaucracies know very much at all at this point.

Since little is known, but it doesn't appear to be that bad so far, the last thing any government official should do is make a statement that panics the people.

The self-reliant have read between the lines and have already in months past prepared for the worst case scenario while hoping for the best, knowing that survival can never be guaranteed but that risk can be reduced, as they always do far ahead of the herd.

Again, that is a false choice. It is not like Trump had to choose between "We have this under control" and "Everyone is going to die."

Trump could, and should, have said something along the lines of, "We are devoting the full resources of the federal government to protect American citizens and to minimize any impact from this illness on global supply chains."

If COVID-19 becomes another yearly recurrence like the flu, does that mean it went away?

80% of cases are mild. Like the flu, unless you're elderly or in poor health it won't be a problem even if contracted. Some young people won't even know they had it.

If anything, this thread indicates the CDC might need to issue a national warning about TDS. Nobody on this thread has Coronavirus. I can't say the same for TDS.... :hiding:

The problem with that number is that you can only base a mortality rate off the resolved cases. That's why the mortality rate on the website says 9% because only about 30k of the cases are deemed to be "resolved."

That mortality rate will almost certainly drop and even 3% is probably too high, but it is just too early to know.

A symptom of TDS is a blind willingness to defend Trump.

As an initial matter, if COVID-19 starts to become a recurring yearly infection like the Flu, does that mean that it has gone away? Second, you quoting the actual experts and their statements on the subject just makes the case that Trump is further lying. Third, Trump made several other claims about COVID-19.

Do you think he is right to claim that it is "under control?" He is not.

Do you think he is right to say that we are very close to a vaccine? He is not.

Do you think he is right to say that all of the US citizens infected with the coronavirus are getting better? He is not.

Only democrat politicians apologize regularly. I think it must cleanse the soul or something. If you have TAS it must be a novel.

Flu pretty much goes away by April or May every year, pragmatically anyway, as people speak, and it's out of the news.

However, nobody has ever hunted down the last existing individual virus of any enumerated category of viruses and killed it to completely wipe out that category.

Even the polio virus still exists, but fortunately with a small incidence of the disease.

I'm glad that Trump does not talk like a scientist or ivy league professor.
