Well, even if I would panic I certainly wouldn't buy truck loads of it: https://7news.com.au/lifestyle/heal...hopper-looking-for-the-basic-product-c-733092 I would rather buy long lasting food. But how can we be so paranoid in buying toilet paper lasting decades? Nothing more important? Looks like too many of my people are intellectually too close to the idiots leading our country. Any thoughts? Reg.
Shops should have anticipated a rush for toilet paper. It is one of the first items that would be bought in any panic buying. I suggest all what it has taken is many people buying only an extra bag or two. But you only need 100 people or so per supermarket to do that and supermarkets are out of stock. Now the problem is even worse. As soon as supermarkets get new stock in people who would not normally need to buy toilet rolls now have a reason to buy an extra bag which would continue the shortage. The only solution is to get in heaps of toilet rolls. Anyone with any sense would have already bought extra toilet rolls long before the supermarkets ran out.
Are you serious? Why toilet paper, why not long lasting food? Can't eat paper, can we? But a bum can be washed having a shower.... Reg.
I think it was all kicked off when the chief health officer(? Title) suggested , very gently, that when shopping, just pick up a few more tins and some more toilet rolls. it worked like a shot!
Sally, rings alarm bells for me. Someone tells us to jump off a bridge, and we will follow orders. The last thing we need is toilet paper, not even a rats ass needs wiping if no food is going in. That health officer you mentioned is not related to the Liberals/Nationals? Reg.
There was a guy who worked for Pittsburg Plate Glass up in Ohio who decided never to buy TP again. Stole a roll or two of TP every day and took it out the gate and home in his lunchbox. Every time he got a cardboard box full he took it up to the attic and stored it. Over the years the cache became more than a two thousand rolls. Then the roof leaked, the ceiling joists sagged bad under the heavy wet loading, and you know the rest of the story. Cost him more in repairs than he ever could have saved in TP. It's wise to have a goodly stock of TP on hand right now, but as long as the newspaper is still delivered you won't go without.
There seems to be undue worry about this problem here. Toilet paper shortage from coronavirus panic buying sees argument break out at Woolworths in Sydney
Well, that's a potential problem with becoming overly reliant on supply chains from other countries, for you most basic necessities. Maybe Australians can learn a lesson here.
Toilet paper is just a luxury. ...until you can't get any. In all seriousness though, food is far more important. Someone buying that much toilet paper prolly already has a lot of food. I would hope.
It’s made here but hysterical panic buying has emptied the shelves. Now might be the time to buy shares in ABC tissue.
I think part of the difference is the amount of stock kept by supermarkets. TP is very bulky per $ so would occupy a lot of space compared with other items. Once it became known that TP was in short supply everyone wanted some extra. But plenty of long lasting food, so not so much of a rush there. I expect there will be shortages of long lasting food before then. Tissues will be the next item to be in short supply for the same reason as above. Then shortages of all frequently used consumables that will keep.
The town I live in has a true blue population of around 90%, if you know what that means.....Certainly no toilet paper in our IGA. But a little bit of racism feels good, doesn't it? Reg.
Are tissues, paper towels, and baby wipes also sold out. When staying in hotels for work I usually keep the small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and lotion for my kids travels and for the local nursing home. Maybe I should start swiping the spare TP roll while I am at it. I keep an emergency roll in my truck. Never had to use it.
I noticed one store was completely out of tp when this first started, now many stores are out. strange people.
One of our supermarket chains in the UK (Tesco) has started rationing certain items. This seems like a sensible action. Nobody needs a whole trolley full of bog rolls.
