You are right, it’s your opinion. The right number of rounds is what is required to stop a threat or multiple threats. Then too, when forced to unexpectedly engage in a gun fight for defense of self or another, spiking adrenaline has significant impact on accuracy and your ability to place hits on target to end a threat. Shooting bull’s eyes in a range is no reflection of how well someone will do in an adrenaline flooding life and death gun fight. Just a simple query on hit percentages of police officers in NY involved in gun fights will show the effects in supposed trained officers much less the average civilian. I carry frequently and chose the gun I carry with the following criteria... a gun/ammo combination I have personally tested to have as perfect reliability as possible, a gun I have proven to myself that I shoot well under stress, the largest caliber gun with the largest capacity (augmented by at least one carried full reload) I can completely conceal given the clothing I am wearing, from cycling clothes to winter attire, ammo of as well known terminal performance as possible. My EDC gun’s range from NAA Pug .22 mag to an HK 45c, with one of my 9’s as the most frequent. And, yes, I have been in a fight as a civilian... one where I was underarmed, despite having 500 rounds with me and a weapon with a 17 round capacity (fired all 500).
Ok In bed in No The right number of rounds is determined by logistics around the feasibility of having the weapon and suitable rds available . It’s not a wish list. It’s based upon practicality. Only a criminal planning a crime wants the maximum available and plans a confrontation with law enforcement, says such things.
Then demonstrate the supposed science that was used in determining conclusively, beyond reasonable doubt, that no law abiding individual in the entire united states, could possibly have a legitimate need for more than ten rounds of ammunition in a single magazine. Demonstrate the process that was used to arrive at this amount.
Sure now... and anyone wanting to carry a gun for self defense is obviously mentally ill suited to do so too, eh?
Typical reactionary comment. I carry a weapon more days then not . It’s for self defense, not to satisfy a siege mentality.
That's patently false and demonstrates a complete lack of understanding. No one has EVER lost a gun fight by having more than enough rounds. You seem to think that you can determine what is the maximum number of rounds a citizen will need to defend him or herself from armed criminals. You cannot.
Nope. I never go through the day thinking I’m going to be attacked by wild hordes raging lunatics. I’d have to be one to think that way. Anything that detracts from my ability to defend myself as quickly, accurately and safely as possible ,is a waste of time. Nope, keep your 30 round mags for the movies and your vanity. I live in the real world. I think laws should reflect my POV, not delusions.
So, people that have been attacked and defended themselves with a gun they were carrying are one of the lunatics?
you have the right not to have more than 10 bullets in your gun. Having been a 24 year veteran of the DOJ, I have studied hundreds of defensive shootings-by both private citizens and civilian cops. and guess what-picking an arbitrary number is moronic. I also am a GM level pistol shooter who once held the national record in one of the pure speed shooting events. I think I know this issue far better than you do and I really tire of people who are less knowledgeable than me wanting to impose their ignorance on others
Other factors take priority once you get to a certain point. . The idea that there is never enough is ridiculous when other factors are much more important, especially when the seize mentality takes over and a civilian who is neither a cop nor a soldier, shouldn’t pretend to be either. Ten works for me when weight isn’t an issue and five when it is. I knew what I needed when in the service During a shooting war and later as a cop. I’m a civilian and neither now. I doubt you know the issue any better.
Sure, You’re delusional thinking that a 30 rd or even 17 rd mag is going to make you safer when 99% of the time, it’s a hinderance. vs any lunatic when when other factors are much more important.
I do, you think honest citizens should be limited to how many rounds they can have in a firearm. that is such an idiotic comment that it permanently disqualifies you from being seen as credible in this area
If you’re going to call someone’s ideas idiotic, at least start the sentence correctly. I’m no longer taking you seriously, in any of your claims.
You're certainly free to choose which gun(s) / magazine(s) you want to carry. All I ask is that you give others the same freedom.
First, I don’t carry concealed a pistol with 30 rd mag, if one were available that could be easily be carried concealed with thirty I would consider it. The FN 5.7 x 28 round looked initially was promising (20 rnds standard) in the FN57 and the new Ruger, but the terminal performance appears to be anemic. As for feeling safer, I have been in a fight where I ran out of ammo (was not in a military scenario), think adrenaline spikes in a fight, have that happen. As for important factors, I posted mine. Aside from having the direct experience, I have trained in a large number of force on force senarios with simunition and have a good better than the armchair expert idea of what works. But, what is important is surviving and I will determine what is important, not you for me. As for a 30 Rnd mag scenario, I have that covered, if home, and would likely have several reloads to boot. Having a concealed weapon with a 15-17 rnd capacity doesn’t mean that you somehow are compelled to expend them all, but, I’d rather that than run empty. As is often said, few out there would complain of having too many rnds in a fight. And, many have died (many of them LE) that have run out of ammo. In all your posts you haven’t struck me as have the expertise to tell me what is or isn’t a hindrance or what I need or don’t need. So peddle your snake oil elsewhere, I am not buying... there are GCAs out there that would lap it up. I often EDC a concealed G26 with a 10 rnd mag and one or 2 G17 spare mags. Sometimes, depending on my attire and what I am doing, I carry the G26 with a G17 mag fitted with X-grips an no spar. There is nothing in my combination that is a hindrance to me. BTW, there are scenarios where rnds are expended to pin a bad down until help arrives or a retreat and exit can be effected or keep multiple assailants from advancing (my real world experience).
I have a G26 among others. You ‘re not telling me something I don’t already know. All my carry weapons are similar in operation, one of the primary concerns in being ready quickly, reliably and safely....I don’t need the siege mentality. Long before I would load my self down with aux oversized magazines, I’d carry my G42 or SW 442 as well. Self defense for me is a totally different level of preparedness then being a mass, shooter.
