No, not if it contributes to better awareness and precautions which is exactly what happened in SK and Singapore...

I agree that one test per individual is not going to be enough.

Some like medical staff may need to be tested frequently. Others (those well isolated) may not need to be tested at all. The rest of us are still going to grocery stores, etc. I would expect there will be some guidlines for rationing tests - probably not as harsh as today's guidelines when tests are so scarce.

Has someone from CDC stated that as a possibility, or is this just from a Trump presser?

The temperature in Rome is in the mid to high 60's.

Presently, in my province, you have to exhibit symptoms and be refered by the covid-19 hotline to be tested. Healthcare personels are tested regulary.

People should keep in mind that, like the spanish flu, the virus may become dormant in summer and come back with a vengeance next fall/winter. The spanish flu was a double hiter...

Yikes. That would be bad news as we won't have a vaccine by then and a lull could cause us to ignore social distancing.

Maybe some other country will have a vaccine by then. SKorea Japan and China have been awake from the start, so they have months on the US.

In NY one had to have symptoms AND a method of exposure in order to get tested.

I'm sure that's being changed as they start getting more tests.

SK and Japan maybe, but I don't trust the chinese farther than I could throw an anvil... They're mostly responsible for the present clusterfuck because they tried to hide the outbreak. And now there are rumors of an outbreak of avian flu from China and the Philipine over covid-19...

Fear will make people at risk more vigalent.

Otoh being dismissive might make people lax, infecting more people.

You are more dangerous than the fear mongers to human life. Irresponsible.

OK. I would point out that China didn't like their early secrecy, either.

They had changes in government over this mistake.

Will WE have changes in government over OUR mistakes that are surprisingly similar?

The authoritarian government can do that on a whim. We the people can only do that in November. Keep in mind however, Biden's mistakes were he President would have been extraordinarily more lethal to the US, allowing countless other infected inside.

He's still yet to retract his stupid statements.

I put up a thread on this.

The studies I saw referenced made more o a connection between contagiousness and humidity rather than temperature.

My understanding is that humidity changes a lot less through the year than we think because temperature affects our perception of humidity. We in Seattle won't see an average humidity increase from now through summer by more than a very few percentage points. And, I think that's true for much of the US.

I'm not trying to counter anything the CDC has said. If they say something else, I'll certainly be listening.

This is a COVID thread, not a partisan political fortune telling thread.

The question was a clear comparison of China and the US.

And as even you point out, their government has and used tools we do not even have.

Doubting China's serousness is ridiculous. Making this a partisan political issue (as Republicans have worked hard to accomplish) is even MORE ridiculous.

Thankfully that response never deterred the Great American Patriot
Jimmy Stewart. He was denied into the Air Force because he was
5 pounds under the weight for someone his height.
He literally talked his way around that hurdle.
Went on to become a Colonel { active duty } and then a Brigadier General
after dutifully serving in the Air Force reserves.
Having held the highest active military rank of any actor in History.
Having flown over 20 Combat missions during WW II.
Was thanked gracefully in 1985 when receiving His Honorary
Oscar with a 10 minute standing ovation.
A proud Republican nearly declined supporting his friend
Ronald Reagan for Governor in 1966 knowing that Reagan
    was a Democrat since 1962.
Campaigned for Nixon in both 1968 and 1972,

Only time will tell, but eventually we will have to learn to live life and deal with it through the protective measures we all know like hand washing, less contact, etc. The virus will be here for a while and certainly can't all stay home on lockdown with everything in the country closed for a year. School needs to happen, people will need to return to work, life has to go on.

Well, I don't see any possibility that this virus won't be a permanent feature of the world.

The real difference will come when we have effective treatment and vaccines for everyone.

Until then, testing, hand washing, social distancing are our tools.

Here in Seattle the more major grocery stores are opening an hour or two early for at risk individuals only.

I know a teacher who teaches through google hangouts now that the school building is closed. In some cases she's had more face time with certain students than she ever had before, as the kid resists in-person face time.

I'll bet we see more adaptation of various kinds.

I think you mean like Democrats are doing. Maybe if Trump wasn't occupied with Shampeachment in January more attention could have been paid.

Until we can flatten the curve and set in place what is needed to take care of the sick, yeah. If we don't and it mutates, it'll be way worst for you than just being inconvenienced.
