    +71,820 cases today over yesterday

So, at end of my day, 11:56 PM on April 6th, 2020 (GMT +2), the COVID-19 numbers:

    2020-04-006 COVID-19 EOD 002.png

Today, we came in well over the 1.3 million mark. In the 4 days preceeding today - until yesterday, we blew past the 1, 1.1 and 1.2 million marks, respectively, yesterday was kind of in between. Two days ago, for the first time, we added 100,000+ confirmed COVID-19 cases in just one day. That is more cases than the entire total that was recorded every day up to March 6th, 2020. Both yesterday and today, we did not have +100,000 new cases, which is exceedingly good news.

Speaking of March 6th, 2020, here is where we were exactly one month ago today.

However, we are now closing in on 75,000 deaths worldwide. More details below.

The mortality rate (number of total deaths / number of total confirmed COVID-19 cases) moved upward to 5.55% (It was 5.46% yesterday at EOD). That is a statistically significant jump and the real bad news for the day, a day in which most of the numbers brought good news.

    The Excel-Table:

    View attachment 109836

In the raw numbers, today was comparable to yesterday, with (+71,820) as compared to yesterday over the day before (+72,539). So, the growth rate was decidely decreased today, at 5.66%. Yesterday, the growth rate was 6.06%. This is by far the best news of the last two days, assuming that the numbers have not gone down simply because nations are testing less.

In terms of deaths: 74,442 total, +5,121 today over yesterday, making for a 7.39% growth rate (yesterday: 7.40%), is a very positive sign because for the third day in a row, the raw number of new deaths and the %growth rate of deaths has gone down.

The % of recovered people was slightly higher compared to yesterday, from 20.58% yesterday to 20.75% at EOD today.

And per country, most of the countries, first per total cases, in descending numerical order:

    2020-04-006 COVID-19 EOD 003.png
    2020-04-006 COVID-19 EOD 004.png
    2020-04-006 COVID-19 EOD 005.png
    2020-04-006 COVID-19 EOD 006.png

There are now 61 nations in the "thousand club", with Iraq and Slovenia crossing over the 1,000 line today. Of those 59, 17 are in the "10,000 club" and 4 of them are at 100,000 or more (USA, Spain, Italy Germany). Tomorrow, France will cross over the 100,000 line and be the fifth nation to do so. Hong Kong, Moldova, Lithuania and Armenia are up next to cross the 1,000 line, either tomorrow or Wednesday. Turkey has shot up to 30,000 cases. Russia is now officially over 6,300 cases (yesterday, it was 5,000), but the actual number of case there may be 50-70 times higher. India is closing in on 5,000 cases. Pakistan added 600+ cases today and is closing in on 4,000 cases.

And here, per new deaths today, in descending numerical order. The USA had the most deaths today:

    2020-04-006 COVID-19 EOD 007.png

The USA had the most deaths in one day: 1,148. France reported 833 deaths.

It's hard to accurately describe how good it is that the numbers are %ually receeding in ways that, if this happens over a number of days, would definitely flatten the curve. At the same time, the Germans are convinced that they will reach the peak of infections on April 11th, the Americans are convinced (based on more than one model) that the next two weeks are going to be horrible and the dying in Britain is just getting worse and worse, ditto for France. That being said, we are seeing better numbers out of both Italy and Spain, cause for some joy and relief.

Just remember: one day does not make a trend. But we have now had 4 days in a row with encouraging signs in at least one category (yes, even yesterday) WE MUST FLATTEN THE CURVE.

Trump is your responsibility. Why aren't we more like South Korea or Taiwan?

Why do you continue making excuses for Trump?

    This is rather obvious misinformation.
What are you saying? You're not going along with the distancing? You are, but you might not in the future?
Die down by May? What is "die down" in your thinking?

This is an informative thread can you try not to turn it into another one of your orange man bad threads please. There are plenty of lefties and righties doing a great job in this thread keeping factual and plenty of other threads where the partisan rank can rant.

Why was Dr. Fauci claiming that the effect of Corona virus on the US would be minuscule on 2/17 ??? No knock on Dr. Fauci btw but a further confirmation that the cover up and withholding of data by the Chinese deceived medical experts. It’s a good thing that Trump implemented the travel ban when he did.

    Good info there. Thank you.

Note the ventilator line peak need has dropped from 32k to 19k

#JOURNALISM: How Fake New Misinformation About the U.S. Needing ‘1 Million Ventilators’ Spread.

“The error conflates the total number of ventilators required with the number of patients who may need the use of a ventilator over the course of the pandemic. How the error spread is a cautionary if convoluted tale.”

The Fake News press actually did with ventilators what they accuse Trump of doing with chloroquine, turning a sometimes-useful treatment into a talisman. Only about 50% of patients on ventilators are surviving at best. And coronavirus aside, ventilators are dangerous: If you put a bunch of healthy people on ventilators for ten days, a number would die. If you need a ventilator and don’t get one you will almost certainly die; if you need a ventilator and do get one, well, you might not die. Securing enough ventilators is part of dealing with this epidemic, but it’s not the only part, or even the most important part.

Man, I really wish that were the case. But it is only so if you hit the ignore button for all the trolls / partisans. There are quite literally in the neighborhood of 10 pages per day (which may be on the low end now) devoted to them and people responding to them. Something I am very disappointed in. This thread was largely factual and nonpartisan for a good stretch. It takes a degree of willpower to completely ignore them. But at this point, there is a much higher proportion of partisan junk than non. *sigh*

Friendly reminder. This is not about deaths. This is about resources. We are running out of PPE, doctors & nurses are exhausted. Med students being graduated early; doctors and nurses being pulled out of retirement. Morgues full. Funeral homes full.

NYC is going to bury their dead in a temporary mass grave until they can be properly buried.

This is about spreading the illnesses and deaths out over time, like, you know, the annual flu.

Annual flu deaths is in a 365 day period. We are going to topple that in just 40-50 days, and it will continue to climb exponentially until approximately June 1. That is, if EVERYONE helps by staying home. If not, it will carry on exponentially much, much longer.

Edit to add: Note, this is in ADDITION to annual flu cases/deaths, not instead of.

The 80,000 flu deaths came in the 3 month flu season. However being isolated in your iggy room will not allow you to hear this correction.

Not True just tried to book one on expedia. It showed a price until you tried to choose a flight then you get the message that they checked 400 airlines and there are no flights.
