I don't mind in the least if any USA citizen wants to give any of our politicians a total and incessant ragging. They are fair game, even internationally. But.....I do think that if anyone wants to call Australia a 'welfare nation' the very least they can do is stump up and explain why, yes?

 

Okay, fair enough. So why is Trump looking to blame them? You say you don't need them, so why did you not know about this nasty much earlier without 'needing' the WHO, or relying on them? What sort of failures were there within Trump's Administration, given your claim that you don't need the WHO?

When an org is in place to be the siren for these things, then they’re expected to do their job. If they don’t do their job most people are going to be caught by surprise because they had faith the group would do what they’re supposed to do. But when they don’t, they should be fired and someone else put in charge especially when they didn’t do their job due to political correctness or worse yet corruption.

 

I'm not at all sure Taiwan lets WHO help them, and probably the other way round too. AFAIK Taiwan is the remnant of Nationalist China and the present China is sort of inherently opposed to their existence in all aspects, is it not?

Donald put Pence in charge of the taskforce and added at least 9 more people to it on February the 26th.

So the sirenes went off. And Donald, after playing golf for almost a month or something, eventually decided to have a good team on it. It's Donalds own fault he was dozing off during an emergency. Obama even arranged that Donald had a team ready. But Donald axed it, when he took over. An obviously insane decision. And I'm not seeing any evidence of corruption in that WHO. All I see is Donald being not up to the job, Donald finding out he made a mess, and Donald blaming somebody else. The WHO is not to blame that Donald is being terrible slow on the job.

Best educated guess here. Taiwan is according to the WHO and plenty of other international organisation a part of China itself. China has 1 government, not 2. Hence they deal with 1 government and not 2. And it's not because the WHO likes it that way, it's a fact they are confronted with this because of the countries around the globe decided that this is how it is. Kind of like Palestine. The UN had a vote. It's a nation. Period. Apparently, Taiwan didn't make the vote. Hence the WHO has to deal with that decision of the world. Vatican City is the closest official tie between Taiwan and the entire western world / NATO nations. And so yeah. Donald had the balls to open an embassy in Jerusalem, but got nothing official in Taiwan.

We know China notified the WHO about an unknown outbreak of something in Wuhan on the 31st of December. That semi famous doctor who found out notified his colleagues the 30th that he found that something unknown. China than went on the path of researching what the hell they found, where it came from, and how people get it. That took like 2 or 3 weeks. The genome was released... in 2 weeks to the world to help out with investigating the virus. I seem to be under the impression that you claim the WHO was aware of all we know now about the virus, back in December. If so, than it's simply not true.

It says crystal clear it still was under examination.

Pff. Donald was still tweeting on the 9th of March why there should be a lock down for 22 deaths due to corona while the average flu kills up to 70,000. He put Pence in charge of the taskforce and added 9 other people on February the 26th, while the WHO declared it an international emergency back in January. Donald's WH had a memo saying millions could die, trillions of buck could be lost... in January. Didn't share it. So Donald didn't do crap for a month and downplayed it even longer. Slow as a slug, to than caught by "surprise" to flip flop and blame everybody but himself.

 

They knew of human to human transmission of a novel virus weeks before they said anything.

Trump wasn’t downplaying it he was trying to keep calm and avoid panic like we saw with the idiots and toilet paper and cleaning products. He was trying to avoid runs like that.

And I’ve said it 100x and I’ll say it again. There is NOTHING about a virus with a .5-1% death rate that even REMOTELY justifies shutting down the us economy, much less the entire world.
