And they did not see cases as early as every other nation. Cruise ship passengers do not mix with the population in general. They did the lockdown before community spread. That explains their success.

No one who supports Trump should be laughing at anyone.
The health care system wasn't prepared, nor was the CDC or FDA.
Trump is deflecting attention and blame. He screwed up testing, repeatedly lied about the availability, and is still lying about it. He still hasn't ramped up efforts to produce PPE when we have governors pressing 3M to release its patents on N95 masks.
While you continue defending the indefensible.

    Your boy's rating...

It won't get to 100% because of herd immunity.

The daily death is not much a concern to me, looking at the development, it is the new cases which counts.
Can we slow it down and get it manageable.

    Yes.

If we want people to stay in their homes, we have to make sure they have enough money to buy groceries.

We do want them to self-isolate until we beat this virus back.

On the contrary, Australia has a massive amount of traffic between its major ports and China. In fact Australia (and New Zealand, to a lesser extent) is sometimes referred to as a suburb of Beijing. I guarantee it was in the country early.

There are extenuating factors though, you're right - they're just not the ones you're looking at. The first is that we don't LIVE in our cities. There isn't really a great deal of housing in our inner cities (and what there is is expensive, large, and luxurious), it's almost all commerce. Our dense populations are in the suburbs fringing the cities, and in new apartment complexes built along train lines further out. The second is that we are just more compliant. Very few have defied restrictions, or pushed the limits of tolerance. We want it over fast, and are prepared to do whatever that takes. We don't want to be in a holding pattern of uncertainty for months without end. The third - and ultimately just as important - is that our leaders (eventually) took it seriously and stepped up - irregardless of ideology. Australia's leader is a right wing Christian mini Trump, New Zealand's is a feminist Lefty - but both stepped up and did the right thing on behalf of their people. Politics have been put aside for the duration.

Jacinda Ardern (NZ) delivered food to homes, where it wasn't otherwise available. Childcare also, for essential workers.

That's good (Canada), but not good enough. We eventually went to mandatory quarantine in dedicated facilities, for citizens returning home (the only people allowed into the country). We tried the self isolation thing first, but a small percentage broke the rules and left the house. If that small percentage is infected - and some were - that spells potential disaster. As it turns out, we were right to go to mandatory, as a good proportion in quarantine have been found to be infected.

FTR, most are really good about being locked up for two weeks, and are thanking quarantine staff and police etc for making it as comfortable as possible, but of course there are always a few who gripe bitterly afterwards. Staff and police are going above and beyond the call of duty to help the quarantined, finding ways for them to access their hobbies, trying to make meals more interesting, talking, entertaining, etc etc. Some people are just so accustomed to being able to buy their way out of anything they don't like, that they can't handle not having that option :police: :w00t:

Glad Canada is getting tougher with the covidiots. Massive fines do work well!

Colorado figures. A spike, 425 cases, they are all on the East Slope, Denver area. How that will work with the gradual opening ?
My county steady, as the rest of the West Slope.

    https://covid19.colorado.gov/data/case-data

I expect a spike when, beauty parlors, hair dressers and so will open up, including restaurants.
Me thinks, in 2 weeks we will be back to square one in CO

Maybe people won't go to nail salons and tattoo parlors, and maybe they won't open up with it is obviously services we don't need.

How much traffic ?? There are ~250K Chinese who travel to and from the US every month. And similar numbers from Europe.

Thankfully Australia and New Zealand were very fortunate with regard to the Corona virus.

Their choice but there is no reason why testing, masks, and hand sanitizers will not prevent any spread of any virus.

Australia hosted 9.2 million international visitors in the 12 months to September 2018, Tourism Australia announced on Wednesday, up 6 percent from the previous year. The number of Chinese visitors grew 8 percent to 1.42 million while Indian tourist arrivals had the strongest growth, up 19 percent to 345,500.Jan 9, 2019

Keep in mind that 1.42 million is a massive proportion, given our population.

    Pretty much sums it up.
Ain't that the truth. I don't think buying their way out of this one is possible.
Saves lives and hastens the day Canada can reopen their economy.

Because humans are fallible. The very best - and so far only - way to prevent the spread is to not catch it, and you can't catch it (or spread it) if you don't go anywhere near public places where others are also coming and going. Stating the bleeding obvious, I know .. but it's important to focus on what works.

If the UK wasn't such a freaking disaster, we might have been able to start a Commonwealth Coalition for World Domination. Commonwealth Overlords :winner:

Edited to add .. might have to be just the three of us. Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Taiwan and can be honorary member :p
