The same people openly defying lawful shutdown orders, ignoring social distancing guidelines, and refusing to put on masks are now going to demand you go back to work even when/if its not safe and then if you choose to prioritize your health and the health of your family you'll have benefits yanked (provided you were in a state that actually managed to issue them in the first place).

Good. Unemployment is for people who have lost their jobs, not people who simply don't want to work.

I never supported the extra $600/week unemployment bonus either. We're paying people more not to work than they were earning when they were working. Absurd. It also really makes you question the sincerity of people claiming they're "too scared" to go to work, when they've got 600 extra reasons per week to be "too scared to work"

As for Huffington Post, I hadn't read one of their articles in a while, holy hell I'd forgotten how biased they are. No wonder some people are so woefully biased, uninformed, and convinced COVID is going to kill us all, if they're reading that junk.

This is the primary motivator - i.e. not having to pay unemployment benefits - behind some Republican led efforts to push for a re-opening of their States and localities, even when every infectious disease expert warns that doing such before even some very basic thresholds have been met will result in unnecessary injury and death.

What if that person lives in a home with an elderly person that has a significant comorbidity? Do you still demand that those individuals "get back to work?"

Huffpo or not, it included a link to the government document ordering that UI should be discontinued for all who refuse to go back to work. Sure, there will be those who are only too happy to sit at home and collect rather than going back to work. But if people are concerned about their workplace not being safe (meat packing plants and Amazon come to mind), they are being forced to make a very difficult decision. As I've previously stated, I'm all for rebooting the economy - but not on the backs/lives of workers.

All that being said, I think its a hard message to deliver while trying to convey the seriousness of the virus. Pretty soon, the administration is going to be forced to take one line or the other - they can't continue to straddle it as they have been doing.

Huffpo... for when you run out of airplane glue....

The language of the first PPP describes the conditions for the federal funds, which now the US department of labor is reminding the states of. Of course Huffpo forgot to mention this part... And of course, democrats want dependence, not ingenuity. The very first thing that needs to be addressed is the tort liability of employers who are providing the jobs. Trial lawyers don't need a handout...

Straddling is all government can do. Either kill the economy with extended shutdown with all of it's negative consequences and deaths or open the economy with the risk of some deaths. It is not a binary decision.

Yes to huffpost. And same goes for vox, salon, pure garbage.

What's sad is that people actually believe this stuff,

Every so often I click a link and the bias is so obvious and Injustncant understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for this crap.

like I said. It rots your brain.

Oh, ps, in before someone goes off on a derailing rant about fox. (Which I dont watch either)

There's only so much money to go 'round, and all of it is borrowed and ticking.

Well, you could go beyond the Huffpo part and look at the link to the government site. Then, you could discuss the content rather than rail about the liberal rag.

In this case, the straddling is showing one face in pressers and another in reality. Is that okay too?

I would actually have some respect for Trump if he got up in front of the cameras and announced his plans with UI.

Well then I guess it's alright! I thought Trump was going to be a different kind of President. One that shoots from the hip. Tells the truth. Sadly, I guess he's just like all the rest when it comes right down to it.

But too afraid to come out and tell the truth about UI when he's cheer leading the reopening?

To make the decision a death sentence, and without any help, McConnell COMMANDS, that any further bailouts etc, include NO FAULT, for the employers, DUPED by Trump into ignorance, borne of not having the guidelines to open safely. So, you catch the virus DUE to work, and you cannot sue, you cannot get workmans comp, you cant work, and are likely cut off the insurance, leaving you stranded.

I don't understand what the problem is with the Dept of Labor wanting information related to “states are strongly encouraged to request employers to provide information when workers refuse to return to their jobs for reasons that do not support their continued eligibility for benefits.”

That seems like information the Govt would want...what's the problem?

Bullshit. The $600/week bonus needs to end and watch the attitude of those workers change. An extra $2400/month never should have been put in place.

CV-19 mortality rate is <0.20%; your statement is hyperbole.

You keep wanting to deflect to dems. We are discussing the leadership qualities of Trump - the ones he campaigned on. And now he's acting like the Dem leaders you seem to hate so much. Upon reflection, I suppose in your shoes I would brush up on my deflection skills as well!

Yeah, he does what he says he will do. Something you are not used to. Instead like most dems, they believe that saying something is doing something. No wonder you are obsessed with what Trump says and not what he does.

I love the fact you got two likes from people that do not even live in this country.
The $600/week never should have been put in place in the first place.
