A bit of a reach to call it compassion. I suspect very few of those who want to mitigate the hell out of COVID, are in it purely for 'love'. Most of us are driven by far more selfish and/or pragmatic reasons. We just want our nations to be clear enough of the disease to be functional.

Those who lost loved ones to the flu last year probably did.

Meantime, at what point will you accept that this isn't last year's flu? Last year's flu had a transmission ratio of 1 to 1.5. COVID's is 1 to 6. Last year's flu didn't cause permanent organ damage in some, and take otherwise healthy younger people and their entire households out of commission for 6 weeks. Last year's flu didn't kill 100,000+. Etc etc etc.

If you knew anything about how those stats are calculated you would know they are based off of BMI, which would put the most fit people on the planet in the category of obese. Get your facts straight. Fat means high bodyfat, not "overweight." Arnold Schwarzenegger was "overweight" and "obese." Fat asses stay home!

    I have MY "facts straight".

In fact, it is universally accepted that most of those estimates of "American Obesity" dramatically UNDERESTIMATE the problem.

    No apologies necessary. You're welcome.

    Carry on. :salute:

Well that map is wrong. It has Louisiana as increasing but they are wayyy down in new cases and deaths. I have lots of family there so I watch the numbers daily. I live in Arkansas, our state has recently doubled and in some areas tripled daily tests so we are having more cases although the % of positive has not increased and we had outbreaks in several prisons. While those still count, they are not in the community and are easy to contain. I’m not sure about the other states. Interesting how Georgia’s numbers are decreasing.

As I thought, one more liberal who has no ideal about why the economy needs to reopen. It's not about my desire to sit and have a cheeseburger.

And even if someone did, that person would have to be infected and you would have to be susceptible. That is a statistical rarity. I still wear a mask in public because why not? Can’t hurt and it’s responsible. But I can still frequent businesses, go to parks, play sports, ect.

So wear and mask socially distance. No need to shut down schools & business. Don’t want to go near anyone, stay home and quarantine. If you job allows it, great. If you’re already retired easy to do. Too afraid for your children, home school. The damage is done though. We already spent the trillions. Businesses are already closed for good, many small and others not so small. The jobs have been lost. Stock market and retirement savings have lost years.

Shutting down for a few weeks sounded like a good idea and it slowed the spread. But we shut down too long. It’s quite sad.

Louisiana sees increase in COVID cases as 15000 new tests pour into system

Really need people to stop letting their guard down on this whole "we'll find more infections if we test more people" thing. The politicians and pundits are trying to tell us a viper wont bite because they need us to keep sticking our hands in the basket. The fact we are finding more infections means COVID aint done with us and we need to act accordingly.

    100,000 dead in three months.

    How much for a year?

But it's factual, there are going to be more cases as more tests are done and as more people come forward to testing. We have to accept that reality. Covid is here, and is going to be part of our ecosystem. Once we embrace that, news like this won't phase you nor should it.

We need the virus to actually spread more, so as to attain herd immunity quicker. Although the organ and neural damage scares the ever living **** out of me, and it still has me suspicious that this is a bioweapon, despite the scientific community claiming "well, the RNA sequence looks natural"

What if the Chinese can make it look natural? What then? Oh, right, then they won't know.

It is as pointless as your post in general seem to be.

Why would you post what political party you say you belonged too? Matters not at all in this context.

You want me to feel like If I wear a mask you and yours not shutting down the economy is somehow a favor to me? That I should feel lucky to trade some of my basic liberty so I can keep other basic parts of it? You grovel that much at the feet of govt do you?

Even trying to make the word shutdown appear as if it's not a apt description as to what occurred. Screw that nonsense.

Oh and your one of those "if the Covid did not get you this time it will next time!" people? Awesome..

That's my whole position since day one. We have to act accordingly. At first hat meant shutting down, now it means adjusting our culture to improve our hygiene and reduce transmission. The resistance I get is like 99% people assuming I want the economy to collapse and 1% from the zealots who get some kind of endorphin rush boasting of their rights and freedoms as if they were active duty soldiers fighting a war against an oppressive tyranny.

Can't speak for others but I have been washing hands, and wearing a mask whenever I go out(which is rarely). But that being said, we are fighting an oppressive tyranny you can see that tyranny in the heart of Lansing, Michigan or Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Both governors racing to be the biggest dick in America and it's not pretty.

2022 is going to be more interesting than 2020.

60,000 was the flu fatality rate for the entire year, and with no lock down put in place

100,000 is the COVID-19 fatality rate which mostly occurred in under 3 months (fewer than 100 Americans had died from the virus at the end of February), and with a lock down in place. Our main concern isn't the 100,000 who have already died, our main concern is preventing a far greater number of people from dying in the near future

And what actions did we take that were most effective at preventing more fatalities from occurring, in your opinion?
