Gone With the Wind will be returning to HBOMax after it was pulled from the streaming service earlier this week. However, when it becomes available it will include an introduction by Jacqueline Stewart, host of Silent Sunday Nights on Turner Classic Movies and professor in the Department of Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Chicago. In an op-ed posted on CNN on Saturday, Stewart explains why people "can't turn away" from the once-acclaimed 1939 Civil War drama. "HBO Max will bring Gone with The Wind back to its line-up, and when it appears, I will provide an introduction placing the film in its multiple historical contexts," Stewart explains. "For me, this is an opportunity to think about what classic films can teach us. Right now, people are turning to movies for racial re-education, and the top-selling books on Amazon are about anti-racism and racial inequality. If people are really doing their homework, we may be poised to have our most informed, honest and productive national conversations yet about Black lives on screen and off." https://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/ne...an-american-scholar/ar-BB15ruOa?ocid=msedgntp Thank goodness for fast forwarding. I watch a movie for entertainment, I go to church to be preached to.
Agree 100% Doesnt bother me much either way I dumped hbo (cinemax & stars too) during the april lockdown, i was watching too much and decided to trim costs and free up time. From my pov. It was a dick move so HBO can suck it, I have no incentive to go back to them at all now. When I need a lecture I'll let you know, same thing for espn, I used to leave it on for hours on the weekend when tinkering, now I just pretend espn doesn't exist.
after they canceled it, more wanted to watch it would be my guess sometimes both sides go too far.... there was no reason to ban this movie
When I find myself in agreement with Liberals(and I remember I was once formerly a Liberal), I'm reminded of what former President Obama said: "There's more that unites us, then is driving us apart." As hard as it is during these times, it's true. We can't let short term power grabs(on either side) enable us to destroy our common humanity.
"As God is my witness, I'll never go without this movie again" * * I don't have HBO Max and I wouldn't watch this if I did... Dumb decision to begin with...
yeah, even Tivo now adds in ads at the start of every saved movie - last Tivo I buy, if they are gonna add ads, there should be no lifetime fees
Why wouldn’t they pull all rap songs that have N word in them? Or put some intro in front of each song?
They're going to add a false, misleading, virtue signaling, liberal-spin lecture to the beginning of Gone With the Wind? They should include a rebuttal introduction ---- reminding people of how the movie was heralded for its accuracy ---- but of course they won't do that. That doesn't fit in with the left's agenda of rewriting history, so we'll only get a slanted virtue signaling version of leftie-spun pseudo history instead. I'm glad I love the book version.
Most importantly, the crisis is over and you can finally sleep again. No more wringing of the hands at 3 am...
It's officially back... I'll never go without my precious Tara and Scarlett again.... SNIP “Gone With the Wind” is back on HBO Max — with two additional videos that discuss the historical context of the classic film. Warner Media had pulled the movie two weeks ago, citing the need to address its “racist depictions.” In the first video, Turner Classic Movies host and film scholar Jacqueline Stewart discusses “why this 1939 epic drama should be viewed in its original form, contextualized and discussed.” The second is a one-hour video recording of a panel discussion, “The Complicated Legacy of ‘Gone With the Wind,'” from the TCM Classic Film Festival in April 2019, moderated by author and historian Donald Bogle. ENDSNIP https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/hbo-max-restores-gone-wind-214726506.html The movie is overlong as it is... Who is going to sit through an additional 1 hour video?? Nobody suspects that GWTW is a freaking documentary on the history of slavery in the United States... I'm sure Donald Bogle is a real person, but wouldn't it be a hoot if this was a Trump alias?? Wouldn't you LOVE to watch Trump try to explain the Complicated Legacy of GWTW???
