Well, more affordable housing everywhere would be good; I don't know about creating a ghetto in the middle of nowhere...

But more & more affordable housing & tossing illegals - they're massively exacerbating the housing problem - would be a good start.

Last time the hoax of 40 acres and a mule was offered the offer was rescinded. History has a habit of repeating itself.

Are you accusing us White people of being "Indian givers"?

You may have something there since the Native American Indians have been " gypped" out of their land more than once since illegal immigration started soon after 1492.

How is that for violating PC?

With so few who suvuved Treblinka the government could make 100 acres and a Ford Bronco.

I actually had mental pictures (!) of some of my Proggy Greeny friends, finding out they would have to start walking the talk via 2 acres of land. There was vomiting and collapse.

The Supreme Court just set about fixing this issue and, I would believe, also set a precedent. They just reassured the Muscogee that they still own half of the state of Oklahoma.

I'm thinkin' that once all the lands taken are returned, all those promised 40 acres and a mule receive them; once all reparations are paid and a chicken is purchased for every pot and a car for every garage.... there won't be any land left to give away or any money to run the country.

That's why I'm happy that I already have my two acres with a vegetable garden, an orchard and a few chickens.

    Re: OP:
I don't think it is feasible. Some would not want land, many who would wouldn't know what to do with it. I have lived in rural America all my life and have seen far too many who move to the country with big dreams, big ideas and no clue. They trash the land and move off leaving the mess for someone else to clean up. Or, worse they trash the land and stay; with their dogs, cats, goats, pigs, chickens and children running loose. The only things they seem to keep penned up are their sway-backed-underfed-rib-showin'-equine and their ambition.

It might be tried on a small scale with each "homesteader" being screened and then, as with the original Homestead Act they would have to meet certain requirements and make certain improvements or "prove up" before they were actually awarded a deed to the land.

    Just my 2 cents.

Who is going to build housing that isn't designed to maximize profits? The only way renting is ever going to get more affordable is if the alternative (owning) also becomes more affordable.

I want affordable housing too. But its not going to happen so long as buying a home is so expensive.

Good question sad to say. :( Not necessarily, but we're headed for catastrophe of one sort or another - maybe many sorts.

    I figured. :) That's a problem alright. :(

You dont create a ghetto in the middle of nowhere. You creat a beautiful space, hand over the keys, shake hands, then watch it deteriorate into ghetto over a 15 year span.

    It's a process.

Homes are expensive? Interest rates are rock bottom, affordability couldnt be better IMO, Unless you want to compare vs 2009.

Sorry, but that is totally unrealistic.

First, why do you assume so much of that land is "unused". Much of it is National Park, other conversation areas, forest and grazing land. Hand much of that over to private interests and you'll see your environment (further) destroyed.

Secondly, for most people, receiving a random chunk of empty land would just be a costly responsibility rather than a benefit, especially if it's one they're prevented from just selling on. Even if that bit of land has any practical use, most people won't have the time or resources to invest in using it.

You'd also have all sorts of practical problems with access, shared resource (like lakes and rivers), connecting utilities and the like. There are valid reasons why we don't have many small scale landowners any more (good or bad can be argued, valid can't).

I'd suggest a better focus would be on unused brownfield sites. Urban and suburban locations where buildings are long unused or areas of land empty but aren't redeveloped because it isn't (seen to be) profitable enough, so land owners sit on the property hoping for the situation to improve. There are no easy answers there either, but it's a much more practical prospect to approach.

    LOL :)

Possibly, but that's why conservatives should be for reparations.
