Let's pretend that you are a policeman and you come up to a guy 18" taller and 100lb heavier than you. He doesn't want to do anything you say. When you try to arrest him he doesn't want to go to jail for some odd reason. How are you going to stop him from leaving? I'm honestly curious. You seem to have a way that works but can't harm anyone. I would like to hear what that way is.
There is definitely an issue with the use of force (especially deadly force) by the police. 2018 US = 1,348 deaths of prisoners in police custody = 12 deaths per 100k arrests = 4.1 deaths in custody per million population UK = 13 deaths = 2 deaths per 100k arrests = 0.19 deaths in custody per million Aus = 21 deaths = 5 deaths per 100k arrests = 0.82 deaths in custody per million https://edition.cnn.com/2020/06/08/us/us-police-floyd-protests-country-comparisons-intl/index.html If you look at deaths per arrest, US has more than twice as many as Australia and six times as many as UK. If you look at deaths in custody per million population, US is five times worse than Australia and twenty times worse than UK. There is definitely a policing problem in America. Regardless of race, this is something that needs to be addressed.
"They reveal that 29% of those killed by police, or 135 people, were black" Right in line with the 29% of crimes they commit. Or, really, underrepresented with the +50% violent crime (murder, assault, weapons charges) they commit.
Your link states public records, a database and only a 5 month span. Your link does not provide a source from which the info was obtained. An analysis of public records, local news reports and Guardian...The findings emerged from a database filled by a five-month study of police fatalities in the US... The Washington Post, an anti Trump media source has very different statistics.
You are 100% correct, but when the word rate is installed to describe the facts it usually pertains to percentage in relation to population. So 28 unarmed Blacks, who are 13% of the population is a higher rate than 51 unarmed Whites, who are 61% of the population.
No argument. Now the problem is whether the rate is because of skin color, culture, or wealth level. The assumption is always skin color. Perhaps that's not the case. Perhaps if we look at other factors, things might actually be accomplished. For example, hip hop seems to glamorize being a gangster. Does no one think that it might tend to influence black young men into acting in a way that would draw the attention of police? If you only look at one cause, you will always find only one cause.
Heather McDonald has been a leader in questioning the epidemic of African-American police, I was surprised to see her in USA Today:
Well superbad, you are a black man. From what I can tell you are also law abiding. 1. How many beatings have you suffered from at the hands of white police officers? 2. How many times have you been tazed by white police officers? 3. How many times have you been maced by white police officers? 4. How many times have you been arrested by white police officers? I realize that anecdotes are not representative of reality but I am genuinely interested in your own personal experience. Please tell us.
Again, how do you know that it's a policing problem and not a culture problem? Respect for police, respect for other people, respect for themselves.
The left has no clue how to look at data. If people are resisting arrest at a rates 10 times what they are in those other countries, it kinda blows up the whole 'there's a problem with policing' narrative. But the left never realizes that this stuff isn't so simple to analyze.
Bwahahahaha... thats quite a bit different from being shot at or beaten while detained. Sorry, but that happens to all races. Cops are humans. They have bad days, especially if you live in a larger city.
WHAT racism? US police kill fewer people than ever before, there's no disproportionate force against black people, it's simply that African Americans are more involved in violent crime, suffer more from mental illness and for some reason think they have the right to resist arrest?
Interesting. So, you claim that another poster is cherry picking, a poster that provides a study that examines all deaths caused by police, and then you use your own statistic which is narrowed down to a much smaller point of the statistics. Do you not see the irony in what you just said and claimed? Do you understand what "cherry picking" means? Here...read this... LINK: Cherry Picking
A while ago I was told by another member that facts do not matter to BLM. And this was a member that is left wing and supports the BLM. I won't name names as I'm not sure how the Mods handle call outs on this forum and don't care to find out.
Last year 9 unarmed blacks were killed by police. 18 unarmed whites were also killed by police in the same year with around 10 million arrests. It is more likely to get killed by lightning.
It is a rarity actually most caused by resistance to arrest. The difference in the percentage of population you use is national, not in the inner cities where most of these events take place. Last year, by the way, twice as many unarmed whites were killed by police as unarmed blacks - 9 blacks and 18 whites. It appears whites are just as likely to engage in resistance to arrest. Statistics won't make your wish in this case.
