I saw this, recently, on FB, but it just about sums up how repubs characterize Dems, it's like they like to create cartoons and then argue the cartoons are real. This is called the 'strawman' argument.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man

To wit, and I have seen repubs do each one of these, it's no exaggeration:

How ironic. There are posts all over this forum using the exact same arguments. Word for word.

Strawman arguments are the last resort of people who have no arguments.

And since there is no possible argument to defend Trump, this year is sure to be the one in which they really stretch their strawman skills to the fullest.

I cannot recall at any time in my life seeing Republicans resorting to this behavior as frequently as they do now. It just serves as evidence of the cultish mentality that has possessed the GOP. It started with the Tea Party, but now it's just a raging illogical monster. The party has become Trump himself.

I’m going to have to bookmark Schiller’s post.

Truth is an absolute defense.......... unless the opposition can’t read.

Perfectly sums up this thread. No need to read any further. Facebook and political debating is like Cleveland and Super Bowl Champions.

The OP was true. Every time I turn around some republican is accusing me of hating the flag, or hating my country, just because they assume any damn viewpoint that is not theirs equals hating the country.

and, what happens when I call them on it? they attack the messenger because they can't attack the message. thank you for confirming my point.

It's ****ing true, deal with it.

The idea that Republicans do this and Democrats don't is so moronic that it can't breathe.

    It gone die.

    Reps: Dems hate police.

Not a strawman. Democrats want to defund the police. I have yet to hear a dem say that the vast majority of police are good honest people trying to do a good job. Not a single time.

Do reality pisses you off does it? I can't remember a post of yours I've read since I've been here that wasn't an attack on this country, it's history or it's institutions, or at least half it's people. The only thing that's changed is after the election most of your vitriol was redirected to Donald Trump. Sadly you're not alone here.

The only way for Repubs to make credible arguments against Dem positions is to distort them. Full stop.

That is an exaggeration which can be proved without even checking the facts.

You said "the only way" Repubs to make "credible arguments" against Dem position is "to distort them". The only way that could be true would be if the democrats are perfect. No one group is perfect.

If Trump supporters wouldn't have their fearful hyperbole of Dems in power = the world coming to an end, they would have nothing.

Mind you, the Dems are not innocent in this respect.

Repub: All lives matter, regardless of race.
    Dem: You're a Racist!

Repub: We believe in equality and equal opportunity for all Americans, regardless of race, gender, etc.
    Dem: You're a racist!

Repub: Unborn infants are human beings
Dem: You hate women and want to control their bodies.

Repub: Can you show us evidence of Systemic Racism today?
    Dem: You're a racist!

Repub: Fed police needed when local police cannot or will not protect property or people from lawless rioting...
Dem: Nazi patrols kidnapping innocent protestors, trying to permanently remove freedom of speech!!

Just a few off the top of my head.

How typically left. Quoting a post from some fool on face book that doesn't know the difference between an argument and an observation. Note the statement that 'you are anti American', or that "You hate America' or "You hate Donald Trump" is not an argument, straw or otherwise, it is an observation. An argument of sorts may or may not follow that observation but it is not the argument itself.

You do know, right now, democrats are claiming Trump will have to be removed from the WH by secret service because he will lose. But you have a problem with republican straw men?

looks like the OP put screenshots of the arguments instead of the actual text. I could shred every single one of those, but not worth the effort.
