Republican Sen. Ben Sasse, in a private call with constituents, excoriated President Trump, saying he had mishandled the coronavirus response, "kisses dictators' butts," "sells out our allies," spends "like a drunken sailor," mistreats women, and trash-talks evangelicals behind their backs.
Trump has "flirted with white supremacists," according to Sasse, and his family "treated the presidency like a business opportunity."
In what appears to be a conference call with his Nebraska constituents, Sasse said Trump could drive the Senate into the hand of the Democrats and cause permanent damage to the Republican Party. It is unclear when the call occurred, though it had to have happened well into this year because Sasse discusses Trump's handling of the coronavirus.

    Wow.

The vultures really appear to be circling.

This is probably be good move for Sasse to disassociate himself from Trump, if Sasse has any future ambitions.

    What say you?

Sasse will be voting for in favor of Amy Coney Barrett.
That is all that matters at this time.

If Trump loses, and the Republicans lose seats in the Senate, Trump will be treated even worse than Bush II was after he left office.

TDS lives loudly within Sasse. Always has. Who cares, he is about as relevant as his buddy Jeff Flake.

His Nebraska constituency overwhelmingly supports Trump and their enthusiasm is through the roof. Whopping 25% more people voted for Trump in uncontested 2020 primary in the midst of the pandemic, no less, than the total number of republican voters who voted in Nebraska's 2016 primary.

Still voting Trump. Far better than a left wing walking carcass and a... well, can't accurately describe Kamalala without getting whacked with a mod hammer.

I think Sasse stuck his finger in his mouth and then tested which way the wind was blowing.

    The Emperor has no Clothes.

It will be interesting to see how many Republicans in Congress start distancing themselves from Trump in the coming weeks.

Sasse is a neo-con and a “never Trumper”. Trump
does not support the neo-con endless war idea. Trump does not support the US being involved in every world problem. Sasse want the US involved everywhere.

Sasse begged Trump for his endorsement when he was running for re-election.

He's one those people. Not ours. He's with the "others."

And it's the Democrats who are divisive. Well kiss me to tears.

The same Republicans who opposed him from the minute he announced his candidacy until today. They are called “never Trumpers”. They are loyal to the political establishment. Trump is an enemy of the establishment.

This shouldn’t be news to anyone who considers them self to be informed.

Trumps throwing a tantrum lol you'd think he could come up with new nicknames. Btw Trumps bullying holds less weight if he loses and I'm guessing Sasse did the math and realized Trump's gonna lose

    Exactly.

Since Sasse is in a safe seat (that would be impossible to lose), Sasse (unlike several other GOP Members) doesn't have to pander to Trump.

Sasse (like everybody else outside of the Trump Bubble) is well aware that Trump is headed to a catastrophic defeat.

Thus, as is expected, like every other GOP member (who actually wants a future in the party) he is getting ahead of the curve by disassociating himself immediately.

Sasse sees the writing on the wall, and he wants to beat the stampede of Congressional Rats jumping ship after Trump's Certain LOSS.

Well, he hated trump when Trump was candidate. He evidently didnt vote for Trump in 2016. Yet he votes with President Trump on policy. Yet still wants to hurt him and would rather Biden win from the looks of things.

He likes the fawning attention from liberal media. He's doing a disservice to his voters and frankly is just another hateful "McCain"

    Those are my thoughts.

A lot people (within the GOP) feel that way.

Sasse is obviously making an early move toward running in 2024.

And the first move in that direction, which makes perfect political sense, is to disassociate himself from the Trump Trainwreck.

Sasse would never get elected POTUS. People are becoming more understanding of the folly and failures of the neo-con movement. Sasse is a staunch neo-con.

Neoconservatism died a long time ago. Calling someone a neocon is just another way of dividing people, within your own party (I assume), which is pretty extreme, IMO.
