Coronavirus Melbourne: Cyclist grilled after being accused of not exercising https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/h...g/news-story/f75c3a12ff01c99c520d8c939f5cf67e The video has been viewed more than 52,000 times, with viewers blasting the behaviour of police as “disgusting”. “Simply unbelievable, this just off the charts police behaviour. Victoria is completely wrecked and ruined,” one person commented. “This is disgusting. I’m ashamed to call myself Australian as I watch this, another said. One person added: “This is bad. Hopefully people will remember all of this at the next election.” The Victorian government has been facing harsh criticism over its tough lockdown tactics, with a former economist at the Treasury Department blasting Victoria as a “police state”. Here we have yet another example of the Australian approach to Covid-19 mitigation. I wonder what the ratio of Cops to bike riders is in Victoria? There were 3 cops on this bike rider like white on rice.
And they got the new daily infections down from 750 a day to 5 a day in the process. What do people want? An open society with very little COVID? Or eternal masks, deaths, long term organ damage in survivors, and business shutdowns?
First, Emma called me, we talk regularly, and she mentioned that John is pleased to see you've finally disassociated his image from your avatar.... Second, the restrictions are a bit over the top I think. In Melbourne, apparently, you cannot leave a quarantine radius of 5km from your domicile. https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/first-step-sport-and-exercise Ok, what about birding? I've just got my new lens and am keen to hit the west lakes, so we're good eh? I won't be exercising at all, just a bit of driving and walking.....
Give a politician a chance to engage in authoritarianism and get away with it and he or she will dive in. The are in office only because they want power and control. The virus has fed the sickness.
How's our COVID, compared to America's? New Zealand and Vietnam went with tighter restrictions also .. how's their COVID compared to the UK's? I suspect there's more than a little envy in the criticism. Given people in less coherent nations can't even begin to get back to anything like normal, while many of us here in the East are as close as it gets. More importantly, we're getting better and better at it - because we now understand that so much of it depends upon our behaviour. We 'get' that if we do the right thing, no lockdowns or curfews are needed. Japan, Korea, Taiwan etc knew it all along (since they've always been good with social responsibility), but it took Australia and New Zealand a little while to catch up.
No envy at all sir. I visited Sydney in 1971 and found it beautiful and its people charming. How's your covid? How's our covid? I think more relevant and important questions for each country would be "How's your liberty?" or "How's your rule of law?" or "How's your constitutional governance?" The PCR tests are so unreliable that the results are pure garbage, useful only for fear-mongering. The disease itself is so mild that it is barely and rarely fatal.
the fact that any one person can support this behavior by any govt is outrageous. Riding a bicycle outside, is now a criminal offense? And what the heck is with the 5km rule from home? I tend to ride at least 10 miles out, one-way, from my home, several times per week this is nuts
Nuts? Today they recorded a single new case of COVID in the entire state. Most states in Australia haven't recorded any new cases in the community in days/weeks/months. How did Florida go? How about California? Texas? Arkansas?
Absolutely fine. My state hasn't been in lockdown for months, and masks aren't required by law. Businesses don't require masks as a condition of entry, either. Life is not that much different to what it was 12 months ago, and we continue to ease remaining restrictions (mostly stuff that doesn't impact the average person - unless they have a pathological need to attend megachurches or football games). That's only been possible because we've been willing to do what it takes, so that we COULD get back to normal faster. OTOH, my American friends in Florida and California say life is nothing like it was, and they can see it getting worse - not better.
What how dare the cops not throw this man to the ground and kneel on the back of his neck? How dare they not pull a gun from their belts? They even horror of horrors! Compliment him on his bicycle - the give him a ticket - not sure of why possibly because HE WAS NOT WEARING A MASk! Despite the fact he was not fully compliant with giving personal information they remained calm and polite The person who pulled him over initially was not a cop but was asking why he was there - this looked to be a private security officer THEY were the ones challenging the fact he did NOT look as though he was exercising All I can say is that if this is the most exciting thing happening in Melbourne it has to be the slowest news day ever
No going maskless got him a fine - NOT repeat NOT a “criminal offence” The amount of people who did not bother to read the OP or watch the video instead preferring to make **** up based on the thread title is astounding
Not for a wee while but those restrictions are lifting Patience grasshopper the restrictions are not forever
Envy would require them to care about those who have died & those who could. They don't. Not one of them. The number could be 100,000 dead or 100 million dead and that would not change. All they care about is themselves & their ideological obsessions
Hilarious innit. If this had been footage of police somewhere in the US executing yet another black person the same people would fall over themselves to justify it.
He was scooting about on his bike filming people. Clear trouble-maker and smartass - and we're talking at $200 fine here. Whoopy-doo!
Were we watching the same video? He provided all of his information, didn't he? Did they issue a ticket? I didn't catch that in the video. Do I need to watch it again? I think that 5k limit is over the top. Seems like these restrictions have been in place since July, eh? Three months, and isn't it now spring there? How about the other four cities down under - similar policies in Perth, Sidney, Brisbane and Adelaide?
They were asking him his birthdate which he was reluctant to give and kept arguing finally he gave it but that bit is muted 5 K just about takes you outside of Melbourne or even the whole of Victoria says someone from one of the bigger states The rest of the states closed their borders and as a result have had only scattered outbreaks of a few people. We are slowly opening up. We have just started international flights with New Zealand. More importantly it confined the outbreak to Mostly Victoria and Sydney and again it was manageable. Discussion today about reopening Melbourne but the infection rate is still higher than they would like - fourteen cases a day.
The states closed their borders? No kidding? That has to be a bit weird, isn't it? I mean, not that I claim to know much about Australia, but just looking at Google maps, I'm curious how that works in practice. For example, it looks like Albury and Wodonga are very closely divided by state lines. They've shut it down just like in the movie Contagion?
I am waaaaay off a border so this hasn’t affected us much but where there is high density such as Tweed Heads there we’re check lines and people questioned. Mostly it has been bloody inconvenient biput we have been riding it out and know that will get us back sooner. West Australia is the one that Closed its borders and is refusing to reopen but then they always believed they would be better off by themselves it has caused hardship - no question but we also realise that the sooner we control this the quicker we get back to normal. Most cities where the numbers are under 10 we do not wear masks but looking at the lines in a crowded shop yesterday We ARE still social distancing
Where do you live? Western Australia and Perth is really quite isolated under normal circumstances, isn't it? Tweed Heads - what a name. Have they really tried to enforce a border there? Between QL & NSW? With an airport that crosses state lines? Those beaches look great. All those folks in Coolangatta are clearly really just a burb of Tweed Heads, seems an unlikely policy to me.
