It's not the governors killing most of those businesses (except maybe the bars) it the people. My wife used to go to the movies every Monday with her friends. They have been open again for about 6 weeks and a couple of her friends decided to try again. They were the only ones in the theater. Are airlines closed? Are cruise lines closed?
Based on what I see...majority of people are back to work. There isn’t any business in my state that isn’t open. There are very few industries not at 100% capacity. Personally I believe those few industries not at 100% should be opened up fully. I get why govt feels it needs to keep certain industries at lower capacity and that is because people are f’ing stupid. Certain idiots feel the need to be “that guy” and be an ******** and not follow simple rules. But, that being said, I still think we should open up those few industries and deal with things accordingly. And we should never close down the economy ever again like we did early on.
This one passed it's first vote in the house. Why don't we vote on it in the senate? House passes $2.2 trillion Democratic coronavirus stimulus bill https://www.cnbc.com/2020/10/01/coronavirus-stimulus-update-house-passes-democratic-relief-bill.html
20% of democrat's $2.2 trillion monstrosity was for COVID relief, 80% was bailout of failed mismanaged states, pork, leftist pet projects totally unrelated to COVID. Every penny of $500 billion republican bill was for immediate COVID related needs.... so the Dems blocked it. Leftist whining about unavailability of COVID relief while they kill an immediate $500 billion emergency bill - PRICELESS
What part of "The senate Democrats blocked GOP's $500 billion coronavirus aid bill as Pelosi-Mnuchin talks continue" is beyond your comprehension? The democrats voted along party lines and killed the bill. Duh
Republicans get everything they want in a partial bill? not hardly "liability protections for businesses." the dems want to help the people, the repubs want to help the corps take out the" liability protections for businesses." and save that for a full bipartisan bill later on and it will pass
the House has a bill already passed, the Senate does not, and the Senate refused to vote on the house bill
The negotiators face a range of political pitfalls with under two weeks until the election. After at one point pulling out of talks, President Donald Trump has pushed for a sprawling relief bill as voters head to the polls. He has even claimed he wants to put more money into a package than the $2.2 trillion Democrats seek. But every step the White House takes toward Democrats’ position risks losing more Senate Republican support in a potential vote. It appears unlikely a bipartisan agreement would get the 13 Senate GOP votes needed to overcome a filibuster.
Huh? liability protections for businesses IS absolutely and unquestionably related to COVID, agree or disagree whether it's needed. $1,8 trillion out of $2.2 trillion in the Democrat bill is absolutely and unquestionably UNRELATED to COVID. You understand the difference between COVID related and unrelated, right? And you understand that not having the liability protection for businesses amounts to NOT helping the small business to reopen. Right?
Why helping small businesses to reopen is not the main thing the democrats want? Ok, let it not be the main thing... but why is it the thing the Democrats actually do not want?
republicans want to help the people and small businesses, repubs want to help the mega corps if dems give this to repubs now, the people never get the help they need - so that has to wait until a bigger bipartisan deal because republicans said they would pass no deal without it, so if that is the case, then they need to make sure they get what they want for the people at the same time
Biden and the democrats are the beneficiaries of mega corps's donations, the Wall Street and Silicon valley alike, by a 10 to 1 margin these mega corps donate to Biden and the dems. Sorry but this "republicans are the party of big business" meme is at least a couple of decades obsolete and invalid. Before Trump it used to be both parties, now it's solely Dems. So once again, why are the Dems against helping the small business to reopen and why do they use it as and excuse to kill the emergency COVID relief bill offered by the Republicans?
Both sides are slowly sliding toward each other, because it is in everyone's best political interest to shovel out some more WELFARE money -- and make no mistake -- that's exactly what these "rescues" are! Each side is trying to 'spin' the whole thing so that it gets the 'credit'. And, when you mash all the bullshit out of it, Democrats will simply construct a narrative suitable and agreeable to their own faction -- and Republicans will do the same damned thing! None of this idiocy would be necessary if we had had an economy built on real VALUE, and if people still practiced the common-sense virtue of having SAVINGS in the bank! But, the Federal Reserve central bank has been kiting a 'fraud-balloon' economy since August 2007, to 'rescue' those it thought were 'too big to fail', and to save the almighty-god stock markets. It was a band-aid for 2008 that should have been gotten rid of when the Great Recession ENDED in June 2009, but because it was convenient (and profitable for stock market players), all the bad habits were kept in place. And now, we've got THIS fugged-up mess, where we have to go on allowing this stinking Federal Reserve central bank to go on 'printing' imaginary money and shoveling it out to a population that has decided that it can't do ANYTHING without the government being stitched into it. This will not (NOT) end well.... But, yeah, slime-bag Pelosi and that other slime-bag, Mnuchin, will almost certainly announce agreement on yet another 'rescue' package, before Election Day.... Pure politics.
Ridiculous. On the basis of worker protections, environmental policies, tax policies, Repubs are the party of big biz.
U.S. reports more than 71,600 new Covid cases as new infections near record highs and hospitalizations rise https://www.cnbc.com/2020/10/23/cov...71600-new-cases-as-hospitalizations-rise.html
You mean like putting the miners out of business, destroying the oil and fracking industries are pro-working people policies? The gap between the rich and the poor skyrocketed during Clinton years and skyrocketed during Obama years, outsourcing skyrocket during Clinton years and during Obama years (and of course during Bush years as well, no wonder he is against Trump). The middle class wages were stagnant at best during 8 years of Obama administration, they have skyrocketed during Trump years. Duh The Democrats' motto - pro-working americans, anti-mega corps rhetoric during election cycles - PRICELESS
Sounds like you don't know what is being proposed by the Trumpster. The Democratic bill would: Reinstate the $600 per week enhanced unemployment benefit through January Send a second $1,200 direct payment to most Americans Give $436 billion in relief over one year to state and local governments Authorize more money for a second round of Paycheck Protection Program loans for the hardest-hit businesses and industries Send $25 billion to airlines to cover payroll costs Inject $75 billion into Covid-19 testing and contact tracing efforts Put $225 billion into education and $57 billion into child care Set aside billions for rental and mortgage assistance Mnuchin countered the Democrats’ plan Wednesday with a $1.6 trillion proposal, NBC News reported. It includes $250 billion for state and local government relief, $400 per week in extra unemployment benefits, $150 billion for education, $75 billion for Covid-19 testing and contact tracing, and $60 billion for rental and mortgage assistance, according to NBC. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/10/01/coronavirus-stimulus-update-house-passes-democratic-relief-bill.html
So, the dems did not accept $1.6 trillion and they did not accept an emergency $600 billion for COVID relief - not enough pork for them, their failed states and their pet projects... in which case screw the country as far as Pelosi and Schumer are concerned.
Why should she stop now? I a couple of weeks the Munchkin will add the 200 billion more. Meanwhile...... The voters remember this like it was the government shutdown. I said, as you did, that the pandemic negatively impacted state and local revenue. I did not say it was devastating. How come the other well run states and cities do not need massive bail outs, only those Democrat poorly run for years and decades?
