From time to time I will stop at a local burger stop and get a burger to go. There is a place very near my place that is fast and easy in a pinch. So I have stopped there from time to time, for years. And EVERY time I stop there, I can hear a dove while I wait in the drive through line. At first I didn't think twice about it. But when I heard the same damn bird in both the summer and the winter, I was perplexed. It gets very cold here and I don't see doves in the winter. Even more perplexing, this has gone on for years. Obviously it can't be the same bird the entire time so it much be some convenient roost in the eves of the building... something like that. But in all this time I have NEVER seen one bird. THEN, the other night I did something I never do: I stopped at the local Taco Bell. As I waited in line, much to my amazement, I heard the same damn bird sounds!!! You have GOT to be kidding me!!! And this late in the year? WTF? Then I looked over and saw something that got the wheels upstairs turning. I saw a natural gas meter on the side of building, next to me. Then I flashed on the other place. There is a gas meter on the side of that building too! OMG! And sure enough, the noise is coming from the gas meter. As the place uses natural gas it causes a little wheel inside the meter to turn. And that makes sounds just like a nesting dove. That is what I've been hearing all this time! LOL!!!
In Spring the doves will perch on our chimney and their cooing can be heard coming from the fireplace in the living room. First time you hear it makes you wonder if there is a bird inside the house but once you get used to it is no longer a problem.
I used to have an office with a wood stove. One day I working and thought I heard something in the stove pipe. I opened the door and a bird flew out of the stove. Scared the crap out of me LOL!
Speaking of birds scaring the crap that happened to me on a country road while riding my bike. These two large birds that had obviously nesting in the trees swooped down to land in the field on the other side of the road right in front of me. If I hadn't ducked I suspect that one of them would have hit me square in the face it was that close.
or make me want a taco... But then there is never really a time that I won't eat a taco. And I've had tacos of all kinds. But now I wonder about dove tacos.
I have a natural gas meter. Have had one my entire life. It has never made a peep. I think you are hearing your vehicle's water pump.
It was definitely coming from the meter. Different areas use different equipment. And it depends on the age of the building as well. Also, you are residential and this is commercial.
Maybe I grew up and inherited the Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and installed a drive thru window. Never know about these things. Unless you live near the oldest taco bell in history, the gas meter should not be making a chirping noise period. You might want to McDouble until they rebuild after the impending explosion levels the restaurant. In the mean time, might want to get the belt on your ride fixed.
