so it appears Trump wanted to attack Iran very recently, but his advisers convinced him not to.

however he still may take this decision and attack iran, which would clearly bring an iranian counter-attack with the support of Russia and China.

a quick snowball affect may occur, and then boom!!! WW3.

will Trump do this simply because he's mad he lost the election? maybe.

will he do it so we have a massive national crisis and he can declare emergency powers and stay in office? i sure hope not.

no, he can attack Iran if he wants to, as commander-in-chief.

only way to stop him would be to remove him via the 25th Amendment, but that would take a few days and Trump might demand a strike within hours.

I don't THINK that would work. My understanding is that his term expires on Jan 21 at noon, no ifs ands or big fat butts. After that date and time, he has to be reinaugurated. The office doesn't continue, it devolves. He is no longer President and no longer CINC. The New President would probably keep the Powers in force but it would be THEM issuing the orders. Trump would be a FORMER President.

Trump can make an attack and even continue it until his term runs out IF he has to as part of an ongoing campaign, but he has to consult Congress after a certain period of time (30 days?)

You have a very strange view of "rational". Iran hates us. They have stated that repeatedly. I have no doubt they would take us out in second, if they had that capability.

I claim no particular expertise on Iran, but have had some dealings with Iranians. While assigned to McGuire AFB, there were Iranians training there. When the Shaw was replaced, the ones I talked to did not want to go back to Iran. They were visibly scared.
