https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/07/politics/elaine-chao-cabinet-resignation-trump/index.html This could or should be in the Opinion section as Resignations in the Last Days of Trump. I applaud emotionally the jesture sort of kind of but by Brain says too little too late for this type of symbolism. Anyone agree? What do others think?
It's sort of fitting that the death blow to Trump has been brought on by the Trump Faithful. Cults usually implode at some point.
I believe that many people will continue to distance themselves from this nightmare. They have no choice if they want to salvage whatever is left of their professional careers. I'm still in shock. I knew he was going to "crash and burn" the WH upon departure but what he did yesterday takes his narcissism and criminal bent to a whole other level.
If there is any hope of 25, the cabinet members against him have to stay. I suppose her leaving is a good indicator that those discussions collapsed.
The McConnell's don't need the two salaries, they can squeeze by on just Mitch's check and their multi million dollar bank accounts and investments.
I agree that resignations at this time is more a matter of symbolism and trying to salvage reputations for future employment than anything else. Especially for the WH staff that will be gone soon anyways. These people are probably just using up the vacation days and earned time off and leaving early. I do think the symbolism will impact Trump though. Trump demands loyalty above all and when people desert him I think he would take it personally. (even though in these cases it is pretty much personnel). The question is how will Trump handle it. If he simply sulks and breaks some furniture it is not a big deal.
It's entirely possible that any power Trump had to impact the republican slate/agenda going forward is gone. We'll see if people are still afraid of him after yesterday.
This was my thought. For those dreaming of a 25th amendment removal this is an indication that won't be happening. Frankly, I'm not sure those "discussions" ever really happened. The CBS reporter used unnamed sources, and quite a few times during President Trump's administration we've seen those media claims backed by nothing more than unnamed sources proven false.
This isn't all about Trump, it's about the political views his voters shared with him. Hard as it may be for Lefties to believe those on the right are capable of rational thought and holding political views that grew out of that process. Listening to Trump speak is difficult but seeing what he tries to do and evaluating it on your own terms is not.
They should put it down into a platform and go with it. I'd probably support much of it. Just leave the clown out of it.
The resignations are just people trying to cleanse what little of their reputations they have left, it hard to get the stench of Trump off of you?!!
Sec of Ed Betsy (Wetsey) DeVos tenders her resignation. They keep resigning and even if Lady P and Chucky Cheeze Schummer get their wish for the 25th there will not be any active cabinet members to vote for the 25th. Not that the 25th had a chance.
In addition to the two Cabinet secretaries a slew of lesser officials have all resigned in the past 24 hours. I'd be curious to know the last time (if ever) that this many people quit on the President that appointed them in so short a period of time. The rats are clawing each other to get over the side.
Going to have A LOT of posters here pretending they never really liked Trump. Fortunately you can't edit posts in PF after a short period.
It is about Trump. Those 'political views' are nothing novel and any Republican can kick that can down the street quite successfully. I have held that view since I have been here. Ultimately, the Caligulan emerged even though, for you all to see, he always demonstrated what a low life gutter dwelling arzehole he personally is. That was overlooked, stupidly, and now what was the great GOP White Hope is truly revealed, he has no clothes. "To the gallows" with the prick, and the sooner the better for the entire Planet.
So far, I have counted three Trump voters on here who have seen the light and finally withdrew their support. The others, who are still defending him and who are deflecting to "Dems bad", will probably eventually slink away, once the Trump brand is fully dead. They just haven't seen the writing on the wall yet.
Fully agree... they're all out in 2 weeks anyway.... I don't even emotionally applaud these completely meaningless faux gestures....
