I think the actual shooting of Congressmen was quite a bit more despicable than anything that happened on January 6th. The protesters on January 6th were 99.9% peaceful. Yes, the minuscule fraction that assaulted LEOs, broke windows, trespassed into the Capitol, or stole stuff should not have done those things, but what it was was a mostly-peaceful protest during which a minuscule fraction lashed out inappropriately in their anger. It wasn't an "insurrection" nor an "attempted coup" nor any of the other absurd hyperbole that's been used to describe it in the media.

 

Abuse of power? that's hilarious. Trumpists couldn't identify a real abuse of power even when beaten over the head with it.

How much did you contribute to #stop the steal?

 

The claim was "they went charging as ordered". Care to explain where / when / by whom they were "ordered" to charge? Or are you going to retreat from that claim too and fall back on "well, no one actually ordered it, they were just using 'dog whistles'" too?

I'm not retreating from anything. Just describing a dog whistle. That these terrorists acted in Trump's name is all I need to know. How they communicate is irrelevant to that fact.

I am absolutely not surprised that great trumpian patriots have no friggin clue what patriotism really is. Wrapping themselves in the flag and crapping on the constitution and its no big deal, just a few rowdies who shouldn't have been so nasty.

I would agree sometimes in a technical way, others in an abstract way, but I just want us to please take the volume down a notch on the "dictator denies election loss --> dictator should be impeached" hyperbole. This is hysteria and a harm to democracy, or the style of government referendum whereby a citizenry in a nation of states communicates to government through republicanism their collective will. Power from the people is transfered upwards to government, not down to us. If we start making fallacious arguments to prevent a future citizenry from freely casting their vote in a Democratic referendum, we have restricted freedom and liberty for all, and not just pensions and potential reelection for Trump. We'll have set a weak precedent for future expressions of the same autocracy.

Since there still seems to be confusion about some basic facts of history, the gunmen (please note the 'E', that's plural, as in multiple gunmen) that attacked Congress in 1954 were not "a single derange man" but in fact a group of four Puerto Rican nationalists.
