Hm. I picked this variety because it's supposed to grow large heads.

    BROCCOLI-GREEN SPROUTING CALABRESE
Produces large richly-flavored heads with super dense nutrient value.

I am trying some Calabrese this year along with my Sun King. Button heads can be caused by overcrowding, heat, and cold. You can get button heads from leaving the plants in the cell pack too long. Broccoli is a touchy plant. I won't buy broccoli plants this year. Growing most everything from seed.

Thanks for the tip. Maybe the tomato plant crowding it out is the issue. These are from seed. I'll take your suggestion and try Sun King.

I have about 5 regular possum visitors. They all look different. Have one that is very white; one that is almost black; and the others are shades of white black and gray of different sizes and ear color patterns. I think there is a 6th one but I didn't get a good look the other night. Looks mostly whitish but much smaller than the other one that comes regularly. My cats just sit at the patio door and stare at them.

I have had good luck with Sun King. I get the seeds at Home Depot. But don't get me wrong. This year I am just keeping the seeds going. I put them in cold frames because the sunlight is free. I had two shower doors and wood to frame them so I built two on my cement deck. So I don't know how the plants will turn out.

Just checked oour rain gauge and 4+ inches. No potato planting anytime soon the ground is pretty well saturated. I hope we can get them in soon. I am looking at seeds to order from seed companies. Potatoes and onions are always safe to plant early most of the time.

I saw earlier or heard that we were supposed to be in the 20 but I think that has changed now they are saying 30's. All the weather is pulling NNE headed your way. Are you going to get snow? The last time we got snow here was 2010

If they tried to attack the oppossum he would probably play dead..lol. They are your cats' novelty. We have fox squirrels here that are a treat to see and they are different colors. They are larger than regular squirrels, I call them one of natures clowns. They will climb up a tree and then crawl around to see if you are still there.

It's 79 F, here. It's supposed to get into the 50s on Saturday. Fingers crossed. I love it when we can open the windows.

I got my husband a weather station for Christmas. He loves it. He's a weather nerd and hurricane expert. There's been almost no rain since December, so he's anxiously waiting to see some rainfall numbers in the app. The most he's gotten to see so far is about .4 inches. LOL.

I think tomorrow will be the hot chocolate day for us...if you can believe the what you hear. So far I have heard two different temps for tonight the last is better than the first, in the 30's sounds better than in the 20's.

My cats only go after an occasional bird or mole. I think they like taunting coons and possum through the glass by sitting their. Most of them are larger than the kitties.

They are handy to have. Do you have the Accu Rite station?

Down to 17 tonight but no snow. Maybe a few slick spots on the road. At this time of year my ground is mush. I get the feeling my garden is going to slide down the hill.

That is an impressive weather station and a good investment. We have an Accu Rite which isn't as intricate. Yours is much better.

Our garden went down hill last year because of all the rain, we couldn't get things planted early enough before the heat was on the garden . I was able to harvest some wild fruits grapes and blackberries enough to make a few pints of jelly. The wild plants most of the time to do well no matter what the weather. I hate it when I see farmers spaying herbicides.

Calabrese is not a bad selection, though I don't know what zone you are in. Since it runs 60-90 for harvest, starting seeds early and plan for the long range (broccoli is best grown in cooler temps so it doesn't bolt) . If your area starts warming up in June (above 70 on a regular basis) for example, try for early April or late March for germination.
