    Much better. *wink*

Extreme weather events can escape our predictive abilities, at least at the present time. Warming, on the other hand, can be accurately measured. The amount of gasses we add to the atmosphere can also be accurately measured. Our knowledge of physics and chemistry allows us to model the causality between the two. It's modern science at work.

I don't know why the name was changed -- probably because ignorant right-wingers would go meme-happy every time snow fell, anywhere -- but climate science began a long time ago.

Early in the 20th century, the prevailing notion was that people could alter climates locally (for instance, by cutting down forests and ploughing virgin fields) but not globally. Of course, the ice ages and other wrenching climate shifts of the past were topics of research. But few considered them an immediate threat, and hardly anyone thought humans could trigger worldwide climate change. A few pioneering thinkers – such as Swedish chemist Svante Arrhenius in the 1890s – had already seen the potential global impact of fossil-fuel use, but their views were typically dismissed by colleagues.

Starting in 1958, precise measurements of carbon dioxide confirmed its steady increase in the atmosphere. The first computer models of global climate in the 1960s, and more complex ones thereafter, supported the idea floated by mavericks decades before: that the addition of greenhouse gases would indeed warm the climate. Finally, global temperature itself began to rise sharply in the 1980s, which helped raise the issue's profile among the media and the public as well as scientists.

Fauci should have told the truth about masks from Day One and got his arse fired by YouKnowWho...

No one ever taught you that. It never happened,

Why the big difference with BC, the gateway to Asia, that even allows Americans to transit to and from Alaska?

I agree the federal government has done a poor job of pandemic management, but so, too, have provinces run by more conservative premiers too quick to relax mitigation measures.

Well it is not just all that. US power grids run at about a 60 hertz equilibrium. The problem is that power plants are designed to automatically shut off around 49 hertz. When demand outpaces supply we drop from equilibrium and when supply outpaces demand we go above equilibrium. Texas was pretty damned close to having a complete shut down of its entire grid across the board. It is why they started having selected blackouts in order to try to push the grid back up to equilibrium when demand was highly outpacing supply. They were looking straight at the 49 hertz tipping point, and from I have read, were close to going over the cliff several times. While people are blaming Texas for what did happen, they don't fully appreciate what they stopped from happening.

Since their PR debacles, the governor of Texas and Ted Cruz have been in discussions. They concluded that Ted Cruz's daughters are the real cause of the power failure

    I understand that perfectly,

The reason the load was exceeding the supply was iced up equipment.

As far as I know, no one has blamed you Texas snap on global warming, rather it is part of a pattern.
Climate change as a result of man made global warming (Full title in deference to you) is more about the growing frequency of such events, highest temperatures, heaviest rainfalls, longest cold/hot spells heaviest snowfall. Records have been broken year after year.
That said, deniers can always find an even more exceptional event back in the 17th century or something.
And lets not forget the medieval warm period. And at one time the earth was a molten ball and a snowball.

Why not all the way up to President? You know this would be "Trump's fault" if it happened last winter. LOL

Yup. Just 20,000 years ago Chicago was under a mile of ice. Cold can make a place unliveable in a hell of a hurry.

The increase in price mentioned in the article must have been the sudden high rise in cost ERCOT officials mentioned in a Texas TV news interview.

Also, Texas Gov Abbot had to issue an order to prevent Texas gas suppliers from selling outside of Texas while Texas power generating facilities were needing gas!

Btw... during the coldest part of the winter storm, when temperatures here in Dallas reached an historic low of zero, electricity was cut to my area of Dallas for 15 hours!

They should blame (doesn't mean "impeach") Abbott for lying about the present situation, for not pushing to fix substandard infrastructure, and regulators for not regulating.
