You’ve bashed “big unions” and supported right to work laws. But it does look like most of your anti union posts ARE directed at the public sector.
I’m staff. Not a member. I’m a member of a different union than the one I work for. They pay their staff through union dues. Staff like organizers, business agents, the people who process the dues etc etc
I live in California and they are an abomination. Having a Public Union negotiate with a Democratic Governor will end up being a nightmare for the tax payers.
Awesome, a union for people who work for unions. Because unions are known for treating their people bad?
Union Representation is about more than being treated bad. It is amusing to bargain our contract and see the union we work for, suddenly act like the employers they yell at lol
Again, you have a poor argument. Are your grocery stores publicly owned? No, so you have an apples/oranges argument. Do better.
What does the owner have to do with anything? Are the workers at risk? Which worker is more at risk? Which worker is more important to be at work every day? That's really all you need to know. Then you prioritize those people. That's why healthcare workers are highest priority. Who pays the worker shouldn't be a factor in the least.
I know. Paying those damn employees is such a burdon. California is out of hand. I worked there in the early 90s in the perimutual industry and it was crazy how things worked then. But the COL out there is so ridiculous that people need to get paid just to live.
But also remember that the people elected that governor, and they did that for a reason. They knew what he would do for those unions.
Because they make outrageous deals with a Democratic Party exclusively, to which they are the biggest donors. It's an incestuous relationship. These deals include the outrageous pay and benefits of Prison Guards and Bureaucrats. When you have a huge donor negotiating with the party the exclusively donate to about how much of the tax payers' dollars they are going to receive, it's filled with outrageous benefits that no one else gets. My mother and oldest sister both rose up in the ranks for the State of California to the top. My Mom retired as the Budget Director for the Office of the Courts and was previously the Budget Director for Health and Human Services. My sister did the same for Caltrans. My mom is actually mentioned in this write up.... although they got her title wrong. https://www.pacificresearch.org/frosting-on-an-already-sweet-pension-deal/ The deals are insane and at the expense of the tax payer. Public Employees are already protected by the Government they work for. They are not at the mercy of a private employer. It used to be you took a Public Job for less pay than the Private Sector, but you knew you had a solid pension. Now the Public Sector is paying more than the Private sector and their retirement is beyond solid, but ridiculous.
It's COMMON for public employment compensation to be weighted toward retirement and anything else that gets paid for in the future.. If legislatures increase salary, vacation, day care help, etc., they have to pay for that now. And, THEY are accountable. If the bill comes due in the future, some shmuck in the future can campaign on how they will fix it. Corporations do this, too. Remember how US manufacturing promised great retirement packages in trade for not increasing salary. Then, when those retirement benefits came due, they cried bloody murder and REFUSED TO PAY!! They even tried to blame it on the unions!!!
In the public sector, the unions and the politicians who pay for union support are indeed to blame. The bankruptcy of Illinois is a case in point. We're talking about compensation for educators here. If you want to talk about fiscal problems in Illinois, start a thread.
The compensation/insurance/pension packages for Illinois educators, extracted by their unions, are a big part of the Illinois bankruptcy debacle.
Do you have a New York Times subscription? They tried reopening schools in the City of New York. And then they had to shut down schools again.

All Government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service. It has its distinct and insurmountable limitations when applied to public personnel management. The very nature and purposes of Government make it impossible for administrative officials to represent fully or to bind the employer in mutual discussions with Government employee organizations. The employer is the whole people, who speak by means of laws enacted by their representatives in Congress. Accordingly, administrative officials and employees alike are governed and guided, and in many instances restricted, by laws which establish policies, procedures, or rules in personnel matters. . . . Roosevelt also put the Japanese into interment camps during WWII which tells me he could have also been wrong on his position on organized labor in the public sector as he was with his decision to intern the US citizens of Japanese descent.
