G.O.P. Group Warns of ‘Defector’ List if Donors Uncheck Recurring Box

The political arm of House Republicans is deploying a prechecked box to enroll donors into repeating monthly donations — and using ominous language to warn them of the consequences if they opt out: “If you UNCHECK this box, we will have to tell Trump you’re a DEFECTOR.”

The prechecked box is the same tactic and tool that resulted in a surge of refunds and credit card complaints when used by Mr. Trump’s campaign last year, according to an investigation published by The New York Times over the weekend.

Yes, it will work for many. The loyalty to Trump is something we have not seen in this country for decades.

When I first saw this, I thought it was some kind of joke from The Onion.

In any event, it seems extremely laughable and beyond absurd.

Also, can you imagine if people actually existed who would actually care what Trump thinks?
Can you imagine if people actually existed who would donate to Trump (under threat of being outed as a "defector")?

He's not even an announced candidate. It's one thing to donate during election season, but it's laughable to donate to a particular candidate 3.5 years before they will be running...

If Trump stopped using his cagey language, and actually called for arms to be taken up against fellow Americans, most of his followers would happily go out and shoot their neighbor on his urging.

Trump is a very dangerous man, and his followers are deranged.

 

I wanted to add a distinction. Not everyone who supports Trump is deranged. There are plenty of folks, even on this forum, who only support him because he makes liberals mad and, at least in general, moves in the same direction they agree with.

Then you have the folks who don't know or can't accept that the man is entirely full of ****. The above group knows he's a useful idiot, but the latter group does not. The latter are those we have to worry about.

They were literally begging for him to give the order to “cross the Rubicon” on his cult worshiping forum. Deranged isn’t a strong enough word.

 

Emotional blackmail is serious stuff. Yes, it'll work. I know some Trumpers that were really ticked off that they refuse to donate to the party and sent hate mail saying they support Trump over the party. I think that's partially why McConnell did an about-face.

 

I really find it hard to believe this story is real. Definitely seems like Onion material. The use of the "radical left" term makes it seem all the more suspicious. Normally a term used by trolls. What if I want to defect to the moderate right or sane conservatism. This message does not seem to appear on the RNC donation page. That has a single and recurring payment options but you can choose up front without being called a defector. Is there a particular link that has this donation page?
