From the Guardian: Everything about America’s gun debate is wrong – here’s why Excerpt: The above is "far too much to swallow"? Good! I hope it makes ya wanna do-somthin legally to end America's Gun Massacre.... !
If only the criminals would just hand over their guns, and not own anything that’s banned we’d be great!
I nominate you, OP, to be the first to attempt to take the guns away from the gangbangers in Chicago and Detroit...
I looked up the murder stats on automatic weapons. To my great surprise, they are somewhere between 200 to 400 a year in all of the US. Frankly, on second-thought, I do not feel that is of an order worth legislating ...
I will gladly be a contact point for here in Detroit. Will gladly drop him off on the east side at sundown to collect the guns from the locals. Will even return next morning after sun up to identify his remains. the big sport lately or so it seems is mass freeway shootings. IDK if it’s the challenge of hitting moving vehicles but big rash of people getting shot while driving down the road. Black guy got mad at a little old lady a year or so ago. Shot up her car. Didn’t hit her but killled the three year old grandson in the back seat. Caught him tho. Personally, I don’t think any of that is the guns fault tho. Seems kinda like punks pulling triggers on a tool.
If he didn't have a gun, he would not have done what he did. Some people simply do not wish to face the reality in which they live. They have a reality of their own, and it says whatever they do is a God Given Right! The ignorance of it all is mind-blowing ...
I think it's a little bit unfair for you to bring that incident up here. It is a little complicated, has already been thoroughly discussed on this forum, and is not the subject of this thread. I mean, if you wanted to bring up a new thread focusing on that incident, fine, but just bringing it up, passing along, out of nowhere, on post 9, seems like just trying to throw lots of mud. I will mention a few things about that incident: Due to the nature of the music, most of the victims were likely the type of crowd who would be against more gun control. The perpetrator himself was of the opposite political persuasion from the targeted crowd. Maybe in his twisted mind he thought it would be a great way to knock off a bunch of redneck Trump-supporters he did not like while also leaving to posterity a shocking mass killing incident with which to set the stage for future sweeping gun control legislation - a political victory for his side even after he himself died. Yes, some of them hate guns so much they would be willing for people to die. Sort of becoming so focused on the means they lose sight of the original ends.
Do I believe he would have did what he did if he did not have those guns? No. But this man had great financial means and could have purchased any gun he wanted off the black market with relative ease. This was a highly unusual case. After he died there was enough money in his estate to pay the families of each of his murder victims $80,000. The perpetrator was also on prescription psychotropic drugs that may have altered his perception of morality and right & wrong.
You want to talk about racist, why don't we talk about how many men in the black community get locked up for weapons charges? How many collective years of black men being locked up do gun control policies cost us as a nation?
THIS "NEW-DAWN" AGE OF OURS If they employed a gun to commit a crime, they deserve jail just like any other individual! Admittedly, this has existed within the black community across the US. Why? Because black, yellow, red or pink have not had a proper-education. And by that I mean a Post-secondary Education that has allowed them the learned-skills obtained by means of a Post-secondary Diploma that they could not afford! But it is NOT THE LAW that will change anything; It is the mentality that will bring about the necessary changes. Howzat? By electing the right individuals to office (small "r")! Getting people out of their ghettos - in this New-Dawn Age of ours where only post-graduate education will propel one into a middle-class existence - is the sole guaranty! The kids from lower-income families (black, white and polkadot) need absolutely a free Tertiary-Level-Education! Just like they had a free Primary- and Secondary-schooling! They need to see the "way out" and not all play football in the hope that they can be "discovered" and thus have the chance to make a megabuck on TV! No, no, no and no! That aint the way to get anybody-of-any-colour out of an abject existence below-the-poverty-threshold*! MY POINT And what's a "post-secondary degree"? See here: What is a Post-secondary Degree? Excerpt: *Which is, btw, an income of around or below $25K a year.
M.A.G.A. Make America Gun Anxious. There are too many guns in too many hands for legislation to do much at this point. And, anyway, people are correct that it is mindless minds, not firearms, that are the root problem. The war for drugs, caused by the so-called war on drugs, also magnifies the statistics. About the only legislative thing that might help would be requiring at least verification of safety practices for owners.
I was a DOJ attorney. this area of law was one of my specialities. There has never been a case of a legally owned assault rifle in the USA (Privately owned) being used to murder another American citizen
almost every injury or death involving gunshots are intentional-either homicide, assault or suicide. How does safety practices have anything to do with stopping such things?
Re: How, then did people kill each other before firearms were invented? The reality that gun banners stubbornly refuse to face is that a determined killer will find a way to kill his intended victim with any number of things that can be used as far deadlier weapons than any firearm.(1) For example, a man who only wanted to kill one person apparently couldn't find a gun so 86 more innocent people died because of New York's moronic gun control laws. All this determined killer needed for his crude WMD was $1.00 worth of gasoline that killed far more than any gun used in any mass shooting ever. This incident proves that when guns are unavailable, more people will die as determined killers resort to crude, easy to make WMDs, bombs, Bio-Chem weapons, Anthrax etc. You're right in that the ignorance behind thinking that gun banning will deter homicides is "mind-blowing". (1) "Happy Land fire" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Land_fire EXCERPT "González went to an Amoco gas station, then returned to the establishment with a plastic container with $1 worth of gasoline.[2][4] He spread the fuel at the base of a staircase, the only access into the club, and then ignited the gasoline.[5] Eighty-seven people died in the resulting fire."CONTINUED
Gun control wont stop a determined person from killing with a knife, bomb, fire, or a vehicle. Just ask those poor bastards in Nice, France...
The radicals who reject even the absolutely most modest proposals make Draconian changes more probable. They are bringing the worst on their position and themselves.
You're perfectly right. A determined killer will not simply give up because a gun is unavailable. A good argument can be made that fewer guns would result in more homicides as killers simply turn to crude, easy to make WMDs that kill more people than just their intended victim. In addition to the example I cited in my Post # 18. (1) that resulted in more deaths than any mass shooting incident, the deadliest school mass killing, too, was not committed with a gun but with a simple home made bomb(2). This mass killing happened back in 1927 and no single school mass shooting has been as deadly either before or since. These and similar examples make it abundantly clear that hoplophobes are not interested in reducing our homicide rate but they are simply interested in banning the inanimate objects about which they are ignorant and happen to fear. It wasn’t the first bombing in the country’s history—at least eight were killed during the Haymarket Square rally in Chicago in 1886, and 30 when a bomb exploded in Manhattan in 1920. But none had been so deadly as this, or affected so many children."CONTINUED
THE PATENT EVIDENCE True enough, but why make it any easier with a hand-gun? Or a machine-gun. These are the most employed weapons when it comes to murders and robberies! Preposterous! You refuse to look at the factual evidence! It's guns not gasoline the cause of the majority of killings! For instance, from here: List of mass shootings in the United States Excerpt: If you will read the documentation, it becomes evident to the naked-eye that the US has a deep, deep problem of mass-shootings. (Also of individual murder by means of a hand-gun!) See here the projection of "Types of killings" by most prominent means: Number of murder victims in the United States in 2019, by weapon used Note that the top-two killing-instruments are "Handguns" and "Firearms"! Unless of course, blind to the factual evidence as you seem, some people simply refuse to accept the Patent Evidence of mass-shootings and their deadly consequences! Wakey, wakey ... !
