That is the tradition---die in office so to speak. Edward VIII was the only one to ever voluntarily abdicate, but it turns out Elizabeth II would have gotten the throne either way as he was her childless uncle.
He was a good consort and an exemplary human being, no question, I didn't say he wasn't. I'm only pointing out that being the co-ruler of a country isn't that terrible of a life to have. I truly hope that this doesn't cause the Queen to reflect on the fact that she's 94 and some may say it is time for her to let someone younger rule the United Kingdom. She has done a good job and brought credit to her family and country. God Save the Queen.
Good to know, I had wondered what would happen to the cargo cult in the south Pacific that worships Prince Philip when he dies:
Well he was royalty independent of his marriage, so I guess maybe they really believe that divine right stuff.
THAT, plus the anonymity and/or distance that comes with it! I'm a lifelong Southerner, and if you were to say to someone's face something 1/1000th of some things posted you'd walk away with a few loose teeth. It's easy to be Barney Badass behind the safety of a keyboard.
As long as Queen Elizabeth 2 is reasonably healthy and mentally alert she should not abdicate the throne. Both she and Phillip, God Rest his Soul, have served Britain and the U.K. admirably for many years. They have been an amazing couple. Long may her Majesty reign.

Righteous monarchs preserve, protect and promote their people. Queen Elizabeth II [so called, "Defender of the Faith"] and her misfit "royal family" have done nothing but contribute to the racial, cultural, moral and spiritual destruction of Britain. .
Nothing strange about that. He was not the rightful heir, Her Majesty is. Just like Prince Albert, he was the Queen's consort.
Understood, but Elizabeth's mother was Queen Elizabeth while George was alive. Same with Queen Mary. It wasn't Queen Consort Mary. Why not King Philip? I've never understood this distinction.
Quenn Elizabeth II was 13 years old when she met the love of her life and that was Prince Philip, and when they married, It lasted a very long time.
Forgive my ignorance on royal matters but why did Prince Philip never become King? I get the fact that he married into Queen's family but when a King marries doesn't the wife become Queen? Or does she become a princess??
