"U.S. military forces conducted an over-the-horizon counterterrorism operation today against an ISIS-K planner. The unmanned airstrike occurred in the Nangahar Province of Afghanistan. Initial indications are that we killed the target. We know of no civilian casualties," spokesman Capt. Bill Urban said in the statement. https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/27/politics/us-military-airstrike-isis-k-planner-afghanistan/index.html _____________________________________ Biden wasted no time. And I'm betting this strike won't be the last. With any luck, we hit the place where ISIS-K was planning its attacks.
“No troops on the ground” just got taken literally and it proved that retaliation can happen without getting re mired in the mess
The attack was well deserved. Biden had no choice but to approve this and let the world know what a tough guy he is after his YUGE Afghanistan failure. The real question is who approved it and told Biden about his decision?
. God only knows exactly who or what Biden's airstrikes hit. Meanwhile... Americans were told to leave the airport. The airport Americans had risked life and limb to get into
It seems to me things are so chaotic there that having actionable intelligence so quickly is unlikely. I have a feeling they knew about someone affiliated with ISIS, hit them, and claimed a win. Air strikes/drone strikes without boots on the ground are not very reliable. Who did the battle damage assessment and identified the body? But, I hope that it really was the planner. I just have a bad feeling this was just a quick publicity stunt to get some tiny shred of good news out of the Afghanistan disaster.
sure the drones have been watching traffic patterns and this was a high traffic area with dangerous people, I trust the military knew what they were doing hopefully we see some more of it, these people have not been low key, they drive around in vehicles standing with guns, easy to track them and where they go when they are so cocky
of course the risk is always there, but knowing someone is gonna put on a suicide vest and commit suicide, sadly not much can do about that
Who, ISIS, or the Taliban? I doubt ISIS has been strutting around all cocky. I’m pretty sure the Taliban are not exactly friends with them. ISIS would be blending in with the locals as much as possible. Seeing how badly things have been planned and executed, I don’t trust the military know what they are doing. They haven’t been allowed to operate like they should. It’s been one giant cluster.
We are concentrated on a little airport with 1 landing strip. It did not take much planning to hit us, and it won’t take much planning to hit us again. Hopefully we killed a bunch of em but I’m under no illusion this will deter them in any way from hitting us/Afghanis again if they are so inclined
There is a lot that can be done about it, but not since our capabilities were gutted before evacuating everybody. Everyone should have been evacuated first, then pull troops out. Saying “well Trump pulled out all the troops” doesn’t cut it. More should have been sent in when things started falling apart. Then evacuations. Then, when evacuations are complete, then we draw down troop numbers. There is no excuse for what is happening on the ground right now.
I didn't post anything about the US military. I posted that Americans have been told to leave the airport. Per the news... the Biden administration is telling Americans to leave the airport because they are expecting another attack on the airport. Meanwhile on another forum... people are talking about the airport landing strip being bombed and no one can fly in or out of the airport... have no clue if that is true or not. This entire Afghanistan mess has become one big circus... and Biden is the clown !! .
the Taliban.... probably many of them the 5000 Taliban fighters Trump had released last year from prison
Tonight on another forum, posters are insisting that one landing strip was bombed and there will be no more flights in or out. Anyone here hear that? Is that true ?? .
