Afghanistan cannot be saved. And here's why. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Note the "gentleman" with the mustache and big rings? Good lord, those people are stuck in the 12-th century, have the values of the 12-th century and talk like the 12-the century. Democracy? Pfff, give me a brake! Women rights? Give me a brake! Western values? Give me a brake! In the video their every 4-th word is about God. And of course that implies Allah -> the Koran -> Sharia law, etc. down the line. Well, if there is one thing more dangerous that the atomic bomb, that's religious fanaticism. And I can smell just that. A religious lunatic is more stubborn than a jackass. Good luck dealing with him. I'm off.
Look at what Christianity was 7 hundred years ago and the power it held over societies back then compared to now. Considering Islam came along 7 centuries after Christianity they have a ways to go before Islam is something they give lip-service to on Fridays and lead secular lives the rest of the week.
OK, fair enough. Me should have read the video description. But I think Afghans are not far behind or much different. The Taliban have exactly the same stupid flat hats. So, I still stand by my words.
They had 7 centuries to make something better and instead they make up a religion designed to control and oppress women and make them slaves
How do you know that isn't what they call "better"? Do you think women in other countries and the US get treated much better than how their culture treats women? If so, in what ways?
Maybe this thread is made with satire in mind, but it hits on a good point: when a person or people’s are doing something immoral and unjust to another person or people’s, they are willing to manufacture excuses to justify their immorality, oftentimes using racism and other forms of bigotry in order to do so. humans did that with slavery throughout history all over the world. And here we are, thinking we’ve come so far when really we’re prone to the exact same fallacies that caused such immoralities.
Exactly, they live in a different culture. For 20 years, I didn't understand what the Americans were doing there anyway, except for drug trade?? I for one wouldn't touch that Mordor with a barge poll. Why I call them stupid? Because they are part of the Taliban uniform, I guess. And the "gentleman" (well, that is clearly sarcasm - I'm sure the dude is "gentle" as a bull in china shop) with the turban, the big rings and big mustache looks like he came from some hell story. It's grotesque. Sorry for being so straight.
I prefer straight so no apologies necessary on this end. Have you ever heard of the Persian princess Zahra? She was the symbol of "beauty" (subjective and cultural) during the 1900s. At that time, she was much beloved and admired for her strength and courage and well as deemed beautiful. https://explore.newsner.com/iran-pe...om-tadj-es-saltaneh-changing-beauty-standards
Pakistan, and Afghanistan share a sizable Pashtun population. But, I think you’re right about none of these guys being Afghani.
We have enough trouble with poverty, ignorance, zealotry, and ideological fanaticism......... ..........in our own backyard. That isn't an endorsement of isolationism. It's a recognition we must be more selective in the fights we choose to fight.
So, here's the thing. When someone says "cannot be saved" I think that's a cop out. Of course, over time, with enough exposure to the outside world, things likely would change, quickly in Afghanistan. What doesn't happen, though, is that their population are effectively exposed. The liberal folks in this country would like the world to be the same. Competing narratives, challenging intellectual view points, nothing is allowed by the new democratic truth ministry. And isn't it ironic that those in the United States are attempting to adopt exactly the playbook that paralyzes Afghanistan? Here's a thing to think about. No one, or culture has all of the answers. Folks in this country might look at the tribes of Afghanistan as being irredeemable. But we have to always remember that those observations are only point in specific time. And it is time, and growth that ultimately will erode the authoritarianism there. Just as, over time, permissive liberal society always drags back towards the authoritarian, These things are cyclic. And an irreligious liberal is just as stubborn as any zealot I've even met. And likely just as intolerant and brutal.
Really. When was the last time a bunch of secular treehuggers beheaded someone for stepping on a pine cone?
Reading your link, I could not help but think it is an out and out falsehood because there is no way that such a truly ugly, masculine woman could possibly be the standard of beauty, no matter the time period or culture. Apparently, my instinct was correct. https://abitofhistoryblog.com/2017/12/12/princess-qajar-and-the-problem-with-history-memes/
You mean the ones who spiked trees that caused lumberjacks to die? Those tree huggers? Or, no wait, the arsonists who blazed used car dealers... I mean, dude, there's an F'in list.
Hell she is a hotty! I live in Wyoming, she is leaps and bounds better then sheep! Well maybe not so much the leaping part, but nonetheless a keeper in my opinion..
