In reality hitting something thin like a wing would more than likely result in a slightly delayed explosion if at all, as such the wing would be damaged by the warhead traveling through it, while the brunt of the explosion (if there was one) would be external to the wing.

Those units are designed to hit something thick and hard like an engine where the warhead can do maximum damage, hitting a wing would actually be a miss leaving the aircraft damaged, but still flying.
