Based on . . . Matthew 18:1-10 Hebrews 1:14 Psalms 34:7 many have concluded that each of we Christians have at least one, or more, Guardian Angles that are assigned to watchcare and protect us during our lifetime. Matthew 18:10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven." Hebrews 1:14 "Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" Psalms 34:7 "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.". The context of Matthew 18:1-10 requires that we interpret Matthew 18:10's "one of these little ones" to be a reference to we adult Christians. (Jesus is telling adults to take the lowly place of children, that is to become properly humble). So? So we adult Christians are in that group that have "angels in heaven" ~~~ ("their angels in heaven." Matthew 18:10) So? So based upon Matthew 18:1-10 and Hebrews 1:14 and Psalms 34:7 ~~ we Christians DO have Guardian Angels that watch over us. Its NOT . . . ONLY . . . young children that have Guardian Angles that watch over them. Of course, our Guardian Angels start their protecting work, watching over us, when we are very young. The world of Angels is as real as it gets. There is an unseen world out there that you can't see, that is actually more real than this world that you can see. How so? Well, the people and most of the things of this world are in the process of dying or rotting or rusting away, but the people and things of That Other World Heaven are not. dying rotting, and rusting away. That which is NOT dying, rotting, and rusting away, is more real than that which IS dying, rotting, and rusting away. Notice I said "more real." This world IS real, but That Other World Heaven is more real. So Angels are as real as it gets. You can't see them, but they can see you. They know who you are. they know your name and they know where you live. And they like you ~ actually its reasonable to believe they love you . Why? Because they would love what God loves and God loves you. Here is a list of some Bible verses/passages if you ever want to "do a read up" on what the Bible has to say about Angels: Luke 15:10 Psa. 103:20 Ex.23:20 Psa 91:11 Luke 1:19 Judges 6:11-12 2 Kings 6:15-17 Acts 10:4 Acts 12:7-9 Dan. 9: 21-23 Matt. 1:18 Gen 24:40 Gen 19:1-11 Matt. 13:41-42 Agree? Disagree? Thoughts? [] ``
Why not have an extra set of limbs? They are not evolved from birds, lol. They are spiritual beings that take up whatever form they wish.
Just seems very odd to me. I have the same issue with mythical dragons drawn with both arms and wings. It just looks wonky and wrong. And if angels intended to immitate man, adding an extra pair of limbs makes little sense. Do they need these wings to fly despite being magical?
I dunno, I imagine they could look like a flying toaster oven if they wanted to, lol, since they are, as you say, magical.
That's a good question. I don't know the answer. Maybe we don't have to know? (Deut 29:29) If I'm right that we don't have to know (and don't really need to know), then we can take great comfort in knowing that BOTH angels and the Holy Spirit are working for our long term good ~ even though we can't always distinguish between the two separate workings. I'm open to any ideas you have. And thanks for your interest and for your question. Best. JAG ``
To the thread: Of course, it goes without saying that angles do not actually have wings. The "angels have wings" thingy became popular with humanity, because it adds some dramatic flair to the angel species. I think the angels have smiled many times at the seeing the artistic representations of their bodies. There are no Biblical reasons, that I know of, to doubt that angels actually look very much like humans. In all their appearances to men, they looked like human men. Best. JAG `
Not to be picky, but there is nothing "magical" involved in Christianity's supernaturalism. There are natural laws in the unseen world and, in my view, one of those laws is that physical material reality can be changed and manipulated for the good, by thought processes. For example, my view is that when Jesus healed people, He was exercising His power to use the natural laws of Heaven, to do good here on earth ~ and of course that appears to us, in our present condition, to be supernatural. But to Jesus, it was natural to have the power to heal human diseases by merely speaking words. Even to raise dead people. "Lazarus come out", said the Lord Jesus, and Lazarus, who had been dead for four (4) days came out of the tomb. (That's in John chapter 11.) Jesus merely spoke words to a fig tree and the fig tree instantly died. Jesus was using that situation as a teaching moment, to teach His disciples how to do things like that ~~ and later on, in the book of Acts, they DID do things like that. ( Matthew 21:19 tells about the fig tree incident.) Best regards, JAG ``
Back about 1980 my uncle knocked my mother down in a fight. Her head missed some dangerous corners that could have done permanent damage. That was the fulfillment of the verse about the angels protecting you.
can't resist medeivel humor. Someone said angles. The angles never had wings, but are you sure about the Jutes?
or she simply got lucky. Motor vehicle accident victims get lucky all the time. Others, not so much I suppose some of us need to put meaning to something when we have no other better sounding explanation. I mean who wants to hear the trivial undramatic "She got lucky" answer? "Protecting Angels" sound so much better
How about a few experiences? I had some which I didn't realize at the time were angelic encounters. I can find no other explanation as to why certain people would pop up whenever I was desperate. This happened to me a few times. My daughter also had an unusual encounter. She was in an expensive car with my mother during a depressed era and in a dangerous neighborhood in NYC. She couldn't find her way out when suddenly a women in a white Mercedes convertible and dressed all in white appeared in front of her. Something told my daughter to follow her and she'll get her out - and she did. Years later when stories began popping up about angelic encounters, she realized it had to have been her guardian angel. Anyway, I began believing in guardian angels when my daughter was two. I figured there was no way toddlers could survive without them.
If a Tsunami occurs, I'm sure God found a way to remove His people before the occurrence - or at least I hope so. So tell me, how could God help and protect those who are continuously refusing his help and protection?
The situation with my mother endorses the belief in guardian angels for practicing Christians. Mom had recently reaffirmed her childhood faith. My uncle was in an unstable state and could not have dealt with the guilt of hurting her sister. An older uncle was also in a delicate place of his mental life and would have felt responsible. My grandmother was frail and would also have been devastated. In this case it was a miracle.
My sis believed that her deceased husband of only 37 years would give her signs and she has 2 degrees. The mind will believe what it wants to believe. It goes to show you there is a part of the mind that has power over education and rational reasoning. But we just choose it when its covenient aand comfotnmg But Lets just say I try to sell you a car with a brand new braking system thats known as the DBS (DIVNE BREAKING SYSTEM). It works this way. When you need to stop, you say Please god, stop the vehicular motion 3 times within 5 seconds Or you can purchase the conventional mechancal breaking system tested over and over in millions 100's of thousands of trials (aka the science of physics, hydraulics and thermo dynamics) with a mechanical failure of less than .00000001 So you see, for most people, science is the obvious choice against an absurd alternative
Yes .. each human is assigned a guardian angel at the time the soul arrives on its next vacation. Some of these angels are lazy though - and do not give much protection to the soul in question
God intervenes in our lives when it serves his purpose. Keep following all suspect events for long term consequences. That's applying science to miracles. Some miracles hold up under examination. Some don't.
