Just for fun I made a list of some of the different characters who participate on the PF. I'm not pointing any fingers as I rarely check the avatar of a poster. See if you recognoze yourself. Have a good laugh and feel free to add another character should you think of one. --- The Arrogant – They have all the right answers but to different subject. The Bubba – Right or wrong, posts are short and to the point. The Druggie – Posts are confusing and full of misspellings. The Haughty – Thinks their posts are masterpieces. Sometimes full of made up words. The Commie – Thinks the democrat socialist government should do more. The Doubter – Wants a link or a quote to everything you post. The Conservative – Answers “leave me alone” or "get outta my life" to most post. The Gambler – Wants to wager a bet you are wrong and they are right. The Mute – Original posts are only links of other’s opinions. The Brainwashed – Only posts what they saw on the liberal news. The Sniper – Takes a snide shot at every post. The Antagonist – Will argue with everyone. The Thinker – Post short well thought out opinions. The Patriot – USA forever, love it or leave it. The Race Baiter – They only reply with “You’re a racist”. The Foreigner – They laugh at all our posts. The Divider – Everyone and everything must belong to a group. The Scrapper – Ready for fisticuffs if you disagree. The Drunk – Agrees with everyone. The Liberal – Thinks the government has all the answers.
I'd give it high marks if not for the partisanship. If I were a Bubba (I am), I'd say cut the crap. If I were a Druggie (I am), I'd say my spelling is impeccable after a good dab. If I were a Patriot (I am), I'd say the gov screwed we Nam and Nam-era vets. But I'm a Sniper only with disagreeable Drunks (happy drunks are rare, and then, that's only a facade.) Lol. Good work, Man. Should be fun. You shoulda balanced out the politics, though. I'm sure someone will pick up the slack. I'll start. The Stratagem: Wannabe love children of Rudy, Mike and Sydney.
Wow. Spot on. Really good observations. I'll add one... The Novelist: Takes fourteen paragraphs to say what could have been said in four sentences.
I would add the "McCarthy", see communism everywhere, at the slightest government intervention. There is then his left wing version : "the boy who cry wolf" that see fascism in the slightest government restriction or the most harmless patriotism.
The Drama Queen/The Doom and Gloomer: basically thinks the sky is falling all the time. The US is doomed, political party is doomed, etc.
A list from your perspective for sure, but a lot of good choices nonetheless. I see a lot of "The Sniper" around, usually trying to say the OP is against the rules while also being off topic and against the rules. I try to be The Thinker. It's a constant battle in the modern world.
Very astute, thank you. Both are a symptom of ingroup bias run amok. It's hard to stay grounded when you take your beliefs too seriously. The most successful revolutions in history have been incremental and conservative. That should tell you something if you have strongly held beliefs: you need the cooperation of the outgroup.
I would add two more: The Nit Picker: Looks for the slightest mistake in every post and pounces on it. The Partisan: Thinks that everything posted by the other side is fake news.
The Conspiracist - Will believe any and all conspiracy theories no matter how bizarre. The Loyalist - His side can do no wrong and the other side can do nothing right. The Disciple - His candidate is the Messiah and walks on water. The Blind - Refuses to accept facts no matter how many credible sources are provided.
The deflecting shill: Rushes into every post the opposite side makes with the only intent being "yeah, but wutabout" to attempt changing the subject. Not really a fan of a bunch of rules but it would be nice if this were more frowned upon.
I dunno about that. Seems many consider disagreement to be hatred. Not that hatred doesn't exist, but I think your characterization is off the mark. Partisan, for sure, but most people aren't expressing hatred.
The Dismisser: Doesn't actually read what someone has posted but will throw all sorts of unfounded adjectives in order to dodge actually responding to the content of the post. The Deflector: Doesn't matter if you've posted facts and links supporting your position, the Deflector will make it all about the person, not the subject.
LOL -- You guys are good. Nice that you got into the spirit of the post. Maybe it will help us critique our own posts and replies.
I don't think any of us need help in that regard. Lol. It's good to get together for beer and wings though.
