The Democrats supported slavery then and they still support slavery today. https://www.cerescourier.com/opinion/editorial/democrats-biden-still-trying-enslave-black-america/ “After Johnson successfully maneuvered Black America into the Democrat plantation, they became a strong voting bloc just as a young Joe Biden joined the U.S. Senate in 1973. Biden befriended Byrd and shared the same policies that shackled Black America. With Biden, Democrats had a friend whose policies oppressed Black America. Biden sought support from follow segregationists in the fight against desegregated busing. Biden authored a crime bill that forced more black males into prison. Most black families lacked fathers with policies encouraging the breakdown of the family through welfare programs. Biden supported Planned Parenthood, whose founder, Margaret Sanger referred to blacks as “human weeds” and wanted abortions to exterminate the black population. She was also a guest speaker for the women’s branch of the KKK. Today, Planned Parenthood is predominately in the black community with half of all black pregnancies ending in an abortion. For those lucky black children who weren’t aborted, Biden and the Democrats to this day block school choice for black families who want to take their children out of failing schools.”
After Johnson successfully maneuvered Black America into the Democrat plantation, they became a strong voting bloc just as a young Joe Biden joined the U.S. Senate in 1973. Its 2021, so 1973 is 58 years. Like I said got anything recent?
I’m confused. I thought the narrative was the Dems became the good guys and the Republicans became the baddies in the 60s after passage of civil rights legislation. Have you guys changed your minds?
It's a vedio. It was written and filmed with a goal in mind. Does a man like that exist? Maybe, maybe not. But buying into the message as if it portrays some profound universal truth is nonsense. It's a well done bit of propaganda.
I've never met or heard anyone in my 63-years of life, defend African slavery, on any level, except modern progressive liberals who think they own African American minds and votes. Maybe those "republicans" you are referring to are really democrats, pretending to be republicans, similar to the convoluted self-serving Civil War arguments elsewhere, wherein, the democrats that owned African humans like there were livestock, actually started a war to perpetuate their Right to own African humans like they were livestock, but now the democrats party claims those Civil War democrats were really republicans, pretending to be democrats...
Who are "modern progressive liberals who think they own African American minds and votes"? That's propagandist gibberish. Revisionist trumpublicans claim because at one time Democrats "were slave holders and started the civil war" today's Democrats are guilty of prejudice and racism. Which couldn't be further from the truth and anyone with two brain cells knows this.
It is Republicans who want to bring back slavery by taking away women's right to bodily autonomy (slavery)... But to draw attention away from their misogynistic agenda they scream, "Hey, look over there , Democrats were slave holders 150 years ago and we weren't"""
Democrats and some Republicans advocate for mandatory injection of employees with dangerous drugs. That sounds like slavery to me.
What makes you think you have some ..."right" to forgive somebody for what they do to another? You seem to be trying to justify not feeling patriotism. It's too obvious. And you don't need to. If you don't, you don't.
He certainly didn't believe in abolishing it, given that he fought for the side that wanted to maintain it. This is like the Nazis who tried to justify their involvement in the holocaust by claiming they were "ordered" to. Except Lee was one of those giving the order. Whatever his personal "feeling" were makes absolutely no difference. He should not be regarded as a "hero", except by those who believed in what he was fighting for. And he should definitely not be commemorated for doing this.
He fought for his state as did many. He was generally opposed to slavery. I visited the Jefferson Davis Museum in Biloxi Mississippi many years ago before it was destroyed by a hurricane. It was very evident in that museum. It is like my link and one other said. He opposed slavery as did many of the men fighting for the south. We don't know what he might have done to abolish slavery had the south won. He was a war hero because he fought valiantly for his state and the south. Your claim was that all men who fought for the south believed in slavery. That simply was not true. You often, much too often, try to put people in this little box where everyone in the box have the same belief. It simply is not true in the real world.
Yup, Sanger spoke to KKK women about BIRTH CONTROL....so you didn't want KKK women to have control of how many kids they had? Want them to have as many KKK kids as possible ???? Did that mean she was trying to wipe out the white race?
So you think that we should build statues to commemorate Lee for what he THOUGHT and not for what he DID. Such nonsense! We should not build any statues of him... period!
So, good to know, people and institutions have to be held in shame forever for things they did in the past. Which brings us to the Democratic Party.....
Monuments commemorating people because they fought to preserve slavery. I see very little. In any case, I doubt very much that right wingers have the least bit of interest in historical monuments. Spoken like a true partisan. Most of us who are leftist today would have been Republicans then. Because we defend doing the right thing.... Not a political party, like you just implicitly confessed that you do.
oh I forgot. The racism of the parties automatically switched one day. Is that gonna be your excuse when socialism fails? “Well socialism is now the Republican Party” We all know how the left views minorities and it isn’t good
Hold on! Are you defending slavery? I'm pretty sure you aren't, but I want to make sure. Other than that, the "it was the Democratic Party of the 19th century that defended slavery" is complete partisan nonsense. Who cares what Party it was! It was wrong! Can we or can we not agree on that? And if it was wrong, we should not be commemorating those who fought to preserve it.
