Good for them! They sound like they were facing much more pressure in much worse circumstances. Is there any American journalist who would stand up for freedom of expression today:
A few .. but not many - and near none in the mainstream sans some partisan navel gazing over at Fox - but at least it is something. The State Powers are on the path to censorship - those who join in on the bandwagon will be rewarded .. those who stand in the way of the stampede will be trampled.
I like a marketplace of ideas, but people aren't very good at figuring out what's bullshit and what's not, and so they're being manipulated into believing lies and it's hurting the many for the sake of the few. It sort of reminds me of the "buyer beware" culture before the food industry was regulated. It's up to the consumer to decide whether there are fingers in their food, or whether factories treat their workers humanely enough. In reality, they're not equipped to make these evaluations. I was once a very firm believer in free speech, but after what Fox News (primarily) has done to America, I am not sure anymore. If we didn't use democratic processes, it wouldn't be as much of a problem. It'd be best if people could say what they want, but the smart and fair can remain in charge. Who knows, maybe the Techological Singularity will help with that, lol, and that's the next step after the misinformation age. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity
Fox News is way better than CNN/MSNBC these days - but both engage in rabid propaganda - and what do you mean by hurting many for the sake of a few . in what way - as there could be many.. Thing that singluarity has arrived mate -- we already taken the next step into the misinformation age .. Good term
A technological singularity is when technology becomes self-inventing and rapidly progresses to highly intelligent beings or pseudobeings. Terminator and Battlestar gallactica were dystopian takes on this phenomenon. In reality, I think an artificial intelligence that is greater than human intelligence would be benevolent because morality is logical, and in the end humans would probably hybridize with this artificial intelligence. I think it'll happen, but what's not clear is when this will happen. Fox misleads and lies to people on purpose, e.g. when it comes to election fraud and ivermectin in recent events. Ivermectin overdoses might not be as common as some liberal media suggested, but promoting it hurts people because it's not effective. Election fraud lies is just the latest way Fox has divided the nation, threatening the long-term existence of the United States. They're purely a conservative propaganda machine with less regard for truth than CNN (haven't used msnbc lately). CNN speaks from liberal values, but doesn't distort the truth as egregiously as Fox, which not only speaks from conservative values but has the same disdain for the truth that Trump does, and they have for a long time. The only liberal person who comes close to fox from the liberal side was possibly Maddow - the rest of them really try to be factual. And Maddow didn't lie so much as the "just asking questions" sort of misleading/unfair assumptions that Fox likes to use.
B F D ! The Nobel Committee got corrupted decades ago! Moi oops, UCSF My Med School Won Another Nobel Why Does Need So Many hear the stormtropper music
It Just Makes Me Appreciate, Nordic Noir more the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, & series. How could such horror occur in their more perfect social system? Nordic Noir. AND THANK YOU for the chuckle if not a Moi @fmw are you now or have ever been a member or supporter of the System speak clearly into the microphone, please
[ If I want to know what is going on in the world I watch FOX news. I might watch some of the talk shows but I know what I'm getting, I see their hard bias and the hyperbolic exaggerations for what they are. All the news organizations were FOXY when there is a political issue they are dealing with. Sadly both sides have true believers who feed their bias on these talk hosts Left or Right. There are no angels in the mix.
Heard the other day that AI is not able to write its own code .. there is your singularity. Ivermectin has saved miillions of lives .. .. Just the other day CNN had a few clips of Fox commentators "Speaking the Truth" ..but calling it lies - claiming these were examples of Fake news. Not that Fox is some stranger to Fake news .. but this was not one of those times. .. Almost everything they say about Covid is false narrative .. Sin of Omission . or lack of contextualization. Factual ? - you are out of the loop mate .. CNN is a friggen joke compared to what it used to be .... a lie a minute - anything to maintain the State Sponsored Propaganda narrative - Russiagate being another recent example lasting 2 years - its truly disturbing - but that you do not see this is even more disturbing.
The singularity definitely hasn't started, but AI is improving in that direction. I see fine. I am not able to lie to myself to feel better but there are other ways of being misled. So go ahead and tell me why you're so convinced on ivermectin. It makes no sense on its face in terms of mechanism, but there are exceptions to that. So, where is the data? The Russian collusion thing wasn't fake at all. There was reasonable suspicion, it was investigated, and there was insufficient evidence for prosection (a very high bar). Trump is skilled at getting away with things like obstruction of justice. Russia and Trump both worked to get him elected, albeit apparently separately except for the Trump tower meeting to get dirt on clinton. That is attempted collusion by his campaign. Mueller declared they were too clueless to be culpable, though. Generous of him.

Mueller declared they were too clueless to be culpable, though. Generous of him.[/QUOTE] You are lying to yourself - and it is exactly to feel better - by the nose you have been misled - on a number of counts .. gulping down state sponsored propaganda like beer at a football game. What mechanism - biochemist - environmental microbiologist here - don't be afraid to wow me with science. You were the one brought up ivermectin - as if it was some panecea - you tell me why this treatment is bad .. your claim of it being dangerous was laughable nonsense on steroids - but you got that from the kool-aid patrol. over 60% of the population of India has covid antibodies - has been exposed to covid - symptomatic and asymptomatic. ..so as far or further along than we are .. as 60% you are getting darn close to herd immunity. India didn't have the vax .. just starting to get it .. so they gave out treatment kits --as did Mexico and numerous other nation. Large number of case studies out there .. places in india where they got the kits .. places they didn't .. those that didn't deaths went up -- areas that did deaths went down. As far as raw totals .. India has 420,000 dead from Covid - USA 750,000 - India ~320/million USA ~2200/million .. a 7 times difference. The main ingredient in the kit was ivermectin --there were other things Vitimin D - C and so on. But you didn't know that did you .. cause when clownshow CNN Reports it is to downplay "treatments" as per the state sponsored propaganda narrative. Russiagate - collusion is not a crime .. so why did we spend 2 years investigating something that was not criminal ? Meuller is a fricken Goblin .. another CNN clownshow .. touting him as a man of the highest integrity .. You just drank it down mate. Dershowitz .. remember that guy -- where did he stand on the issue ? - same place he stood on Clintongate. - after which Congress was to make changes -- changes which obviously didn't work .. as this was illegitimacy of authority on steroids - a Witch hunt - and a kangaroo show. They knew 2 weeks into the investigation that Trump was not guilty of - had no involvementin - 1) DNC Hack 2) FB Ads.
Lying to myself? Lol. Not the one fell for the ivermectin hoax. I didn't call it dangerous except in the sense of distracting from real solutions. You really trust India's numbers? I don't at all. You know that historically only about 20% of deaths were certified with a cause of death in India. Have heard it. Was curious where the hoax came from. I don't recall my issue with that study at the moment though. May try to find it again. Not that you would believe any criticism of the stuqdy given how long it took me to convince you that you need to control for age. You serious?. He's a republican* who declined to file charges he could have pursued (obstruction) because of proper protocol. Republican with an asterisk because he's an old-school republican, you know the kind with a shred of honesty and integrity. No, collusion was not the name of the other potential charge, just the colloquial term.
What Hoax .. It is a fact that numerous nations included Ivermectin in the Treatment package given -- Mercks new drug is a similar treatment.. You are the one lying to yourself .. trying to project your failings onto others. and you havn't done squat in terms of investigation other than the MSM kool-aid .. conflict of interest Fauci and friends -- doing as the Drug company is telling you..
Where does that leave us? What other fundamental individual rights do you take issue with? What else is even left? The right to pay taxes?
It's just a conflict between unregulated free speech and democracy. Free speech is already limited in certain ways and in certain situations. We can't tell the enemy where our naval fleets are or falsely yell fire in the theater, and if we must keep democracy for it to function well we would need to assert that campaign money isn't speech (it's a bribe), and also that knowingly lying in a way that puts peoples lives at risk is also not protected. If we did away with democracy, rights could still be protected by a constitution (and logic). Rights such as to bear arms, free assembly, equal chances in criminal justice, healthcare and education, to be or not be religious, to do drugs or not, abortion, really almost anything that doesn't inherently harm others against their consent. The idea that democracy is needed for rights to be respected is simply not true, but despots in the past have done terrible things to maintain power. It doesn't mean that's the only other choice, though.
Of course, when your speech ventures into action there are limitation, you can't dodge a murder charge because you kill someone with speech to text instead of a button. But I honestly wonder what we think remains of free speech. What does it entail that its absence would not? We decided that it's not to protect offensive speech, that speech which insults or offends on the basis of protected class should be illegal. Now even talking policy with a politician in the street is enough to get you arrested by anti-terrorism forces, what remains? The right to parrot the government line? What's the point of that? If you can't even think of a situation where a principle applies you may as well abandon the principle.
Just the other day Pelosi scolded reporters for not selling the Democratic reconciliation bill to the public.
Moi621 I lost respect for the Nobel Prize when they awarded it to Henry Kissinger all those years ago. Awarding it to Obama further eroded the credibility of the Nobel committee.
